The camera would not focus on my face. It would only focus on things extremely close. I've tried improving the lighting but the camera never focuses. For reference check the images below:
Can anyone recommend any potential solutions?

Hi @Doc103,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP Pavilion Laptop PC 15's camera is consistently focusing on objects that are very close and not on your face, there are a few potential causes and solutions you can try.
Check Camera Settings:
- Autofocus Settings: Some camera software allows you to toggle autofocus. Make sure that autofocus is enabled.
- Manual Focus: If there's an option for manual focus, ensure it's set correctly.
Update Camera Drivers:
- Device Manager:
- Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
- Expand Imaging Devices or Cameras.
- Right-click on your camera and select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
Check for Software Updates:
- Ensure that your operating system and any camera-related software (like HP Camera or Windows Camera app) are fully updated.
Use Camera Troubleshooter:
- Windows Troubleshooter:
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
- Select Additional troubleshooters.
- Find and run the Camera troubleshooter.
Adjust Camera App Settings:
- If you’re using a specific app (like Zoom, Skype, etc.), check the app’s camera settings. Sometimes these apps have their own focus controls.
Reset Camera App:
- Reset Windows Camera App:
- Go to Settings > Apps > Apps & features.
- Find the Camera app, click on it, and select Advanced options.
- Click on Reset.
External Camera App:
- If the built-in app is problematic, try using an external camera app like ManyCam or OBS to see if the issue persists.
Physical Inspection:
- Lens Cleanliness: Ensure the camera lens is clean. Use a microfiber cloth to gently clean the lens.
- Obstructions: Make sure there are no obstructions or stickers covering the camera.
Test Camera in Different Apps:
- Try using the camera in different applications to determine if the issue is software-specific.
Hardware Issue:
- If none of the above solutions work, there might be a hardware issue with the camera module itself.
By following these steps, you should be able to identify whether the problem is related to software settings, driver issues, or if it’s a hardware fault.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
