Hello,

I am experiencing an issue with my integrated HP Wide Vision HD Camera.

Initially, the camera appeared in Device Manager as a hidden device, but it was not listed under the "Cameras" category. It showed as an inactive/hidden device and was not functioning. Applications like Windows Hello and Camera could not detect it.

I attempted all recommended troubleshooting steps, including:

Restarting the system multiple times

Scanning for hardware changes

Updating drivers via Device Manager

Uninstalling the camera driver and rebooting

Checking Windows privacy settings

Checking BIOS (camera option does not appear)

Installing all available Windows Updates

Using HP Support Assistant (no driver updates available)

After uninstalling the device driver, the integrated camera no longer appears in Device Manager at all — not under Cameras, Imaging Devices, USB Controllers, or Hidden Devices.

Currently:

The integrated camera is completely missing from Device Manager

There is no downloadable camera driver available on the HP support page for my model

Windows does not detect the hardware

I have searched extensively for the official driver but could not find a valid HP download source.

At this point, I need:

A direct link to the correct official camera driver for my device

OR

Guidance on restoring the integrated camera if it is not being detected by the system

Please note that I have already tried the standard troubleshooting procedures found on HP forums and support pages.

I would appreciate a specific technical solution rather than generic troubleshooting steps.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Kind regards,

Hi @raiidyn,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

Sorry for the inconvenience caused and don’t worry let me help you.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  • The exact HP laptop model .
  • The Windows version/build you are currently running (you can check by typing winver in the Start menu).

Here are a few additional steps worth checking:

  • Enable “Show hidden devices” in Device Manager again and check under System Devices or Universal Serial Bus controllers. Sometimes the camera is misclassified.
  • Run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI): Restart your laptop, press Esc repeatedly, then select Diagnostics. Run a component test for the camera to confirm if the hardware is detected at a low level.
  • Check Windows Optional Updates: Go to Settings → Windows Update → Advanced options → Optional updates. Sometimes camera drivers are listed there instead of HP Support Assistant.
  • Perform a power reset: Shut down the laptop, disconnect AC power, and hold the power button for 15 seconds. Then restart this can sometimes reinitialize hardware devices.
  • BIOS update: Even if the BIOS doesn’t list a camera toggle, updating to the latest BIOS version for your model can restore hardware detection.

I hope this helps.

I am currently using Windows version 25H2 WIN11 on an HP Victus 15 Gaming Laptop.

I had already checked “Show hidden devices” in Device Manager. The camera was working before. I wasn’t using it for a while since I didn’t need it, but recently I needed it for an online exam for a job interview and realized it was not working.

When I first bought the laptop, I installed an additional M.2 SSD and opened the back cover. At that time, I checked the camera and it was working properly. So it was functioning after the hardware installation.

The camera device was always appearing as hidden in Device Manager and was not showing normally. Because of this, I uninstalled the driver from Device Manager to try reinstalling it properly. However, after uninstalling it, I could not find the driver anywhere.

The device name was HP Wide Vision HD Camera. I saw some third-party websites offering downloads, but I did not trust them, so I did not install anything from those sources.

I also tried to find the camera test option in the BIOS diagnostics, but I couldn’t locate it despite searching carefully.

I updated everything available in Windows Update, including an update called “HP Inc. Firmware 15.31.0.0.” I have restarted and fully shut down the computer multiple times.

At the moment, the camera driver is not present on my system, and I cannot find it on the HP support website either. I’m not sure what else I should do.

Hi @raiidyn,

Thanks for your response and I completely understand how this must feel, especially since your camera worked fine before and now it’s missing right when you need it most. Thank you for sharing all the steps you’ve already tried Let’s go through a few additional troubleshooting steps together:

  • Check BIOS/UEFI Settings
Restart your laptop and press Esc or F10 (depending on your model) to enter BIOS/UEFI. Look under Advanced or Device Configuration to confirm that the integrated camera is enabled. Sometimes it can be disabled at firmware level.
  • Run HP Hardware Diagnostics (outside Windows)
Power off your laptop, then press Esc repeatedly while turning it back on. Select F2 – System Diagnostics. If available, run a component test for the camera. This helps confirm if the hardware is being detected at all.
  • Install HP Support Assistant
If you haven’t already, download and run HP Support Assistant. It can automatically detect missing drivers and reinstall them from HP’s official repository.
  • Check Windows Privacy Settings
Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera and make sure camera access is enabled for apps. Sometimes the device is present but blocked at the OS level.
  • Scan for Hardware Changes
In Device Manager, click Action > Scan for hardware changes. If the camera is physically connected, Windows should attempt to reinstall the driver.
  • HP Drivers Page (Model-Specific)
Visit the HP support website for your exact Victus 15 model (using the product number from the bottom of your laptop). Even if the camera driver isn’t listed separately, sometimes it’s bundled under the Chipset or Intel Imaging Devices section.

I hope this helps.
