I'm writing regarding my HP Envy laptop where the built-in webcam has never worked since purchase in 2022.

Laptop Details:

  • Model: HP Envy 13-ba1014na
  • Product Number: 30A98EA
  • Age: Approximately 3 years, 9 months old
  • Condition: Excellent - no drops, damage, or repairs
  • Operating System: Windows 11 23H2

Problem: The built-in webcam has never been detected by Windows. When attempting to use the camera, I receive error code: 0xA00F4244<NoCamerasAreAttached>

What I can confirm:

  • The camera lens is physically present in the screen bezel (visible)
  • The laptop has never been dropped or damaged
  • The camera has never worked since purchase

Troubleshooting already attempted:

  • Checked Windows camera privacy settings - all permissions enabled
  • Updated BIOS to latest version
  • Searched for camera drivers on HP Support website - none available for this model
  • Checked Device Manager - no camera device listed under "Cameras", "Imaging devices", or "Sound, video and game controllers"
  • No unknown devices or devices with error indicators visible
  • Attempted to manually install generic USB Video Device driver - option not available
  • Checked BIOS settings - no camera enable/disable option found
  • Scanned for hardware changes in Device Manager - no camera detected
  • Windows Update shows no optional camera driver updates available

Current status: Windows cannot detect the camera hardware at all. It appears the camera module may be physically disconnected internally, or there may be a firmware-level issue preventing detection.

Question: Could you please advise whether:

  1. This is a known issue with this model/configuration?
  2. The camera cable may simply be disconnected and can be reconnected?
  3. There are any BIOS settings or firmware updates that might enable camera detection?
  4. This specific SKU was sold as a "no-webcam" configuration despite having the physical lens present?

Hi @Baxter62,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Envy laptop's built-in webcam is not being detected and you're receiving the error code 0xA00F4244<NoCamerasAreAttached>, here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow to resolve the issue:

Verify Webcam Presence:

  • Check the top of your computer monitor to ensure a webcam is installed. Some models don't come with a built-in webcam, which could explain the error. If your laptop was advertised with a webcam, and you don't see one.

Webcam Privacy Switch:

  • Some HP laptops come with a webcam privacy switch or a shutter key. Check if your laptop has a privacy switch on the side or a shutter key on the keyboard. Ensure it's turned on or set to the open position.

Update Drivers:

  • Go to the Device Manager and expand the "Imaging devices" section. If the webcam appears here with a yellow exclamation mark, right-click to update the driver.
  • Alternatively, visit Official HP® Support and download the latest drivers for your model. Ensure the correct operating system version is selected.

HP Camera Software:

  • Ensure you have the necessary software installed to operate your webcam. Look for the pre-installed HP Camera software on your laptop.

OS Troubleshooter:

  • Use the Windows Camera Troubleshooter by going to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters > Camera.

Perform a Power Reset:

  • If the issue persists, try performing a power reset on your laptop to clear its memory. This will not affect your personal data.

    I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
