Microsoft Windows 11

I am reaching out for assistance regarding an issue with my integrated webcam that started after the recent Windows 24H2 update. Since the update, my HP Wide Vision HD Camera has been completely disabled.

I followed the recommended troubleshooting steps, including uninstalling the device and searching for hardware changes to reinstall it, but the webcam is no longer detected, even when I enable the "Hidden Devices" option in the Device Manager.

To rule out hardware issues, I took my laptop to a technician, who confirmed that the ribbon cable and camera hardware are functioning correctly. He suspects the problem is related to Windows rather than a physical defect. As a last resort, I performed a clean installation of Windows using a bootable thumb drive, but the driver remains missing.

Before the issue occurred, I noted the driver details:

  • Device: HP Wide Vision HD Camera
  • Provider: Microsoft
  • Driver Date: 21/06/2006
  • Version: 10.0.26100.1301

I have researched HP and Windows forums, and it seems other users are experiencing similar issues, with some suggesting the latest BIOS update (currently F29) may be responsible.

I have exhausted all possible solutions and would greatly appreciate any guidance on restoring the webcam functionality or obtaining the correct driver.

Thank you for your time and assistance.

A friend of mine has the same issue, and once the camera is removed from Device Manager, it is no longer detected on reboot.  So as far as Windows seems to be concerned, the camera just no longer exists.
