Using either command centre or light studio despite selecting the same colour for all zones one zone will be a different colour i don't know how to fix this and it is very annoying.

I understand you have issues turning on the backlit keyboard on your laptop.
Don't worry I'll try to help you out.
Did you make any software or hardware changes your PC?
Please provide the product number of your PC to assist you better.
As you mentioned you see lights only on WASD keys on the keyboard.
Try the steps recommended below.
Opening HP OMEN Control
To open HP OMEN Control, at the Start screen, type HP OMEN Control to open the Search charm. Select HP OMEN Control in the Search results.

The HP OMEN Control screen appears. Use this screen to manage your keyboard profiles, assign key values, set up keyboard lighting, and use advanced keyboard features.

To customize the lighting zones for a user profile, complete the following steps.

Select the Lighting tab.

On the keyboard image, click the lighting zone you want to customize.

You can also select the lighting zone from the drop-down menu. To do this, click the down arrow (
) in the Center box and select the zone.

To change the zone color, click the color box below Center, select a new color from the color palette, and then click OK.

Repeat these steps for each lighting zone you want to change for each user profile.
TIP: You can also select one color and apply it to all the lighting zones at once.

Also, To check whether your particular model has a backlit keyboard, check the F5 key to see if the backlit keyboard key is present.
To turn the keyboard backlight on or off, press the F5 key.

If you have issues turning the backlight on try uninstalling and reinstalling keyboard drivers and check if it helps.
In Windows, search for and open Device Manager.
Click View and select Show Hidden Devices.
Click the arrow next to Keyboards, right-click the keyboard device name, then select Uninstall to remove the device from Windows.
Continue removing device names in the Keyboards category until all device names have been uninstalled.
Restart the notebook. Right-click Start (), select Shut down or sign out, then select Restart.
Wait for the computer to restart and open Windows.
Also, try updating the BIOS and chipset drivers on your PC using HP support assistant and check if it helps.

I have upgraded the ram but nothing else i get an error when opening omen control and it is not the wasd keys it is the zone that surrounds them i have tried using omen light studio but even when all zones are set to the same colour this zone is still different.

Request you to follow the below troubleshooting steps
Was the light getting changed before?
Update the BIOS
update the windows
reinstall the omen command center and download from Microsoft stores,

We have done the basic troubleshooting as per the document and the notebook needs to checked taking remote access so that get to know it's a hardware or software issue.
I'd suggest you contact HP in your region regarding the service options for your computer or HP Chat Support Team.
