My laptop suddenly stopped, and would not reload. No Video, NO Keyboard, No touchpad. Later determined that the CMOS battery had failed. A new battery was installed, and the system booted up. No response from keyboard or Touch pad. An TECH suggested that I restore the BIOS. Done that but no change. Does the forum have any suggestions. I like the system and would prefer not getting a new one.
Thanks in advance

Good Day. Thank you for posting your query in the HP community. I will be glad to assist you and let’s get right to it. Splendid presentation of the issue .It is amply appreciated.
- Did this happen after a recent power outage or surge?
- Did you connect an external keyboard and mouse and check if it works?
I will be providing a roadmap with some troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue. Let us try these steps:
- It looks like a hardware issue. Connect an external wired USB keyboard and mouse to the USB ports of the notebook and check if they work.
- If they work correctly the actual keyboard and touchpad or the motherboard controllers for these components are faulty and need to be replaced.
- I am being honest about it here by keeping your best interest in mind.
Run extensive hardware diagnostics from this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-envy-dv7-7300-quad-edition-notebook-pc-series/5363764/model/... (HP PCs - Testing for Hardware Failures)
- Follow directions from the section “Run the Extensive Test (2 hours or more)”
- If any component fails, make a note of the failure code. Then contact a local technician to get the notebook repaired. As this is an old computer the original suppliers and manufacturers of the parts that are supplied to HP don't do so anymore and hence service options are no longer available.
If diagnostics pass, then try these steps:
from this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-envy-dv7-7300-quad-edition-notebook-pc-series/5363764/model/... (HP PCs - How to Reset Your Computer to Factory Settings (Windows 10, 8, 7) try these options:
First backup your important data.
- Complete a Microsoft System Restore using an external keyboard and mouse.
- Then check for issue resolution.
If the issue continues, then perform these steps:
- Perform a system recovery
- Complete a system recovery
This should do the trick for you.
Good luck and keep me posted about the developments. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue and give the post a Kudos for my efforts to help. Thank you and have a great week ahead. 🙂

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately, there was no solution. All your suggestions/recommendations were
followed to the letter without success. It's my thought its time to replace. All the supported information has/is
extremely helpful. My only disappointment was that HP would not accept the machine for repairs since its more
than 5 years old..... (Guess I'm showing my age). A result was eventually found by disconnecting the devices from
the BIOS and re-installing the touchpad driver.
Many thanks to you, and I do give you a "THUMBS UP" for you help and recommendations.
