Subject: Keyboard and Touchpad Not Working After Cleaning Screen – HP Pavilion x360 Convertible 14m-dh1xxx

I’m experiencing an issue with my HP Pavilion x360 Convertible 14m-dh1xxx.

The screen calibrator has been broken for a while, so I disconnected it, and the system continued working fine. However, last week Friday, I noticed some dust on the screen and decided to clean it gently with a dry towel.

After cleaning, my keyboard and touchpad stopped working once the system booted into Windows. They still work in BIOS, but not after startup. The device also behaves as if it’s in tablet mode, even when it's in laptop mode.

I’ve already reinstalled Windows, but the issue persists. I suspect it may be related to hardware or drivers affected by the screen cleaning or tablet mode sensors.

Please, I really need assistance resolving this.

Thank you.

Hi @Hardey-Bhest,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding keyboard and touchpad issues on the HP Pavilion x360 Convertible!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Check External Connections:

  • Ensure that there is no residual liquid or moisture underneath the keys or touchpad area. Allow the laptop to fully dry if any solution was used.

Restart the Laptop:

  • A simple restart can reset internal components and possibly resolve the issue.

Enable Touchpad and Keyboard:

  • Check if the touchpad and keyboard can be enabled through the function keys (often Fn + F3, Fn + F5, or another key). The specific key varies by model.

Update Drivers:

  • Visit the HP Support website and download the latest drivers for your keyboard and touchpad. Ensure your operating system is fully updated.

Check Device Manager:

  • Open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start Menu and selecting it.
  • Expand the categories for Keyboards and Mice and other pointing devices, make sure there are no warning icons.
  • For both, right-click and choose 'Update Driver', then search online for updates.

Perform System Troubleshoot:

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot. Run the troubleshooter for Hardware and Devices.

Touchpad Settings:

  • Navigate to Settings > Devices > Touchpad. Ensure that the touchpad is turned on and check for sensitivity settings.

Hardware Inspection:

  • If comfortable doing so, check internally for any loose connections or cables that may have been disturbed during cleaning.

Safe Mode:

  • Boot into Safe Mode to see if the keyboard and touchpad function. If they do, it might indicate a software issue.

Reset System Settings:

  • Consider performing a system restore to a point before the cleaning, provided you have recent backups.

I hope this helps.
