I have HP Spectre x360. My key board stops working abruptly. Then I have to restart the laptop and the keyboard starts functioning again. Some where on these pages, I found a possible solution to open device manager and uninstall the keyboards from the keyboard tab. I have tried that solution several times, but still the problem persists. Please suggest a solution as it becomes extremely difficult in between work to save everything and restart the laptop. Just to add the touch pad keeps working while the keyboard is dead.

Hi @seekingnomad,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I Understand your concern about keyboard issue, don’t worry let me help you with this.
To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?
- Does the keyboard stop working only when the laptop is running on battery, or also when plugged in?
- Do you notice if it happens after waking from sleep/hibernation, or randomly during use?
- Have you installed any recent Windows updates or HP driver updates before the issue began?
Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try before restarting the laptop:
- Run HP Hardware Diagnostics
- Restart your laptop and press Esc repeatedly, then press F2 to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
- Run the keyboard test to check if there are any hardware faults.
- Update/Reinstall Drivers
- Open Device Manager → expand Keyboards → right-click Standard PS/2 Keyboard → select Update driver.
- Alternatively, visit HP Support Assistant or the HP website to download the latest drivers for your Spectre x360.
- Check Fast Startup Settings
- Go to Control Panel → Power Options → Choose what the power buttons do → Change settings that are currently unavailable.
- Uncheck Turn on fast startup and save changes. Sometimes fast startup interferes with keyboard initialization.
- BIOS Update
- Ensure your BIOS is up to date. You can check this through HP Support Assistant or the HP Drivers & Downloads page.
- External Keyboard Test
- Try connecting an external USB keyboard. If that works consistently, it helps confirm whether the issue is with the built-in keyboard hardware
I hope this helps.
