I usually leave the lid open and the laptop enters sleep mode after like 5 minutes. And after a while, it just randomly turns on to lock screen. No reason i could find for it and no solutions for it on the internet. Please help 🙂

Hi @Solerat

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand that you are facing an issue with your HP device, I am glad to assist you today.

It sounds like your laptop is waking up from sleep mode unexpectedly, which can be quite annoying. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

Check Power Settings:

  • Go to Control Panel > Power Options.
  • Click on Change plan settings for your selected plan.
  • Then click on Change advanced power settings.
  • Look for settings related to Sleep and Wake timers. Disable wake timers if enabled.

Device Manager Settings:

  • Open Device Manager.
  • Expand categories like Network adapters, Mice and other pointing devices, and Keyboards.
  • Right-click on each device, select Properties, go to the Power Management tab, and uncheck Allow this device to wake the computer.

Check Scheduled Tasks:

  • Open the Task Scheduler by searching for it in the Start menu.
  • Look for any tasks that may be set to wake the computer. You can find them under Task Scheduler Library. If you find any, you can disable the option to wake the computer.

USB Devices:

  • Sometimes USB devices (like a mouse or keyboard) can wake your laptop. You can disable this in the Device Manager, as mentioned above.

Wake on LAN Settings:

  • If your laptop is connected to a network, check your network adapter settings. Go to Device Manager, expand Network adapters, right-click your adapter, select Properties, then the Power Management tab. Uncheck Allow this device to wake the computer.

Check BIOS/UEFI Settings:

  • Restart your laptop and enter BIOS/UEFI (usually by pressing F2, Delete, or Esc during startup).
  • Look for any wake-on options and disable them if necessary.

Update Drivers:

  • Ensure all your drivers, especially for your graphics card and chipset, are up to date. Sometimes outdated drivers can cause power management issues.

Windows Updates:

  • Make sure your Windows is up to date. Microsoft often releases updates that fix bugs, including power management issues.

Disable Fast Startup:

  • Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do.
  • Click on Change settings that are currently unavailable, then uncheck Turn on fast startup.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, it might be worth checking the laptop's event logs to see if there are any clues as to what is triggering the wake-up. You can do this by searching for Event Viewer in the Start menu and looking under Windows Logs > System for any relevant entries.

I hope this helps! Keep me posted.
