When I use the laptop touch pad my cursor acts up, and does not move smoothly or sometimes at all. I’ve tried turning it off and on my cursor/touchpad updating my laptop and resetting it, but still have issues

Hi @Esther401,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand your laptop cursor is lagging or not moving smoothly; it could be due to several reasons. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:

Check Touchpad Settings:

  • Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Mouse.

  • Check the touchpad settings and make sure that the touch speed and sensitivity are properly configured.

Update Touchpad Drivers:

  • Go to Device Manager.

  • Find your touchpad device under "Mice and other pointing devices".

  • Right-click the device and select "Update driver".

  • Choose "Search automatically for updated driver software".

Clean the Touchpad Surface:

  • Ensure that the touchpad is clean and free of any dirt or residue.

  • Use a soft, slightly damp cloth to gently clean the surface of the touchpad.

Check for External Devices:

  • Disconnect any external devices like USB mice or keyboards to see if they are interfering with the touchpad's functionality.

Battery and Power Issues:

  • Sometimes, low battery or power settings can affect touchpad performance. Try connecting the laptop to a power source and see if the issue persists.

Run HP Diagnostic Tools:

  • Use any diagnostic tools provided by HP to check for hardware issues.

  • Visit Official HP® Support for any specific troubleshooting tools for your laptop model.

I hope this will help.

Take care and have a good day.
