Laptop just a few months old. Turns on, screen is black. I can see the startup screen in the sunlight, but does not light up and cannot do anything. Brightness is up all the way.

@cpethtel
Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.
This sounds like an internal display issue, you can connect the computer to an external monitor/tv and check.
If you don’t have an alternate monitor, I recommend checking if the issue appears on the BIOS screen.
1. Turn off your computer
2. Make sure you have connected the power cable
3. Turn on your notebook, as it is starting press the F10 button repeatedly
And, also you can check display with a flashlight just flashing it all over the display. if your able see the internal display then the computer may need to be serviced as it may be a hardware issue with the unit.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
If I have helped you resolve the issue, feel free to give me a virtual high-five by clicking the 'Thumbs Up' icon below, Followed by clicking on "Accept as solution" from the drop-down menu on the upper right corner, Thank you for posting in the HP Support Community. Have a great day!
