HP Notebook 15s-fq1872nd

Microsoft Windows 11

I assume a lot of people reaching our for help are desperate. For sure I am, since I’m already struggling with my HP Notebook 15s-fq1872nd for months.

My laptop starts flickering and goes black immediately after start up and logging into Windows. Touching the keyboard or using the mouse will bring up the normal screen for a few seconds, then again it starts flickering and goes black.

The problem usually occurs after I’ve shut down the laptop through the start menu but gets fixed if I restart it. After restarting the laptop runs without any problems until shut down. Because of this, apparently it cannot be an hardware issue.

I have used all available options in the HP Support Assistant and the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows 2.3.0.0. The BIOS was updated and confirmed to be up-to-date. Windows is continuously updated although I seriously regret updating to Windows 11. The display driver was updated, removed and re-installed numerous times using the Device Manager. I rebooted the laptop by holding the power button for 30 seconds. The local IT-shop was able to recreate the problem but could not fix it either. When checking using https://support.hp.com/ to my surprise it replies (no drivers for my laptop were found at all.

I’m a loyal fan of HP, but don’t know what to do any more. So I really hope someone has a solution for this annoying issue.

Hi:

What graphics driver version is installed?

The only suggestion I can offer would be to see my knowledge base article at the link below for how to manually update the Intel graphics driver to the latest version.  According to what I have read on the Intel site, this driver is supposed to work for the Intel Iris Plus graphics.

You're very welcome.

What's the driver version and date?

The one on the Intel link I posted is 31.0.101.2115,  December 29, 2022

Hi Paul,

It looks like you've solved my problem indeed. Because of your tips I downloaded the Intel Driver & Support Assistent to help updating the driver. Although Windows Device Manager and HP Support Assistant and HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows all confirmed the driver to be up-to-date, the  Intel Driver & Support Assistent concluded otherwise:

Description:
This download installs Intel® Graphics Driver 31.0.101.2125 for 7th-10th Gen Intel® Core™ Processor Graphics, and related Intel Atom®, Pentium®, and Celeron® processors.
Version: 31.0.101.2125   Release date: June 15, 2023   Size: 309.4 MB
It's almost awkward to see such a simple sollution for something I've been trying to solve for months.
I'll double check tomorrow since it is already 01:49 CET here, but ik looks solved.
If so ... Thanks, a lot!

Hi Paul,

You put me on the right track!  Thanks a lot.

The Windows Device Manager, the HP Support Assistant and the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows all confirmed the driver to be correct and up-to-date, I have now used the Intel Driver & Support Assistant because of your tip.

This IDSA did install 31.0.101.2125 dated 5/24/2023 that works fine.

I is almost awkward to see a problem that I have been struggling with for so long could be solved this easily.

Thanks again
