Laptop screen freezes when disconnected from my monitor.

Whenever I disconnect my laptop from my monitor the screen freezes after a few seconds. This also occurs when I duplicate the display on my monitor instead of extending it. When the display is duplicated, the laptop screen freezes but I can still use the monitor's screen fine. I've tried reseting, restarting, and redownloading the display drivers & bios. Please help I need this laptop for school. Thanks!

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Try another external monitor and see if the same thing occurs? Also, try a different cable.

Let me know if this helps.
