Laptop screen goes black and starts flicker after start up

My laptop screen tends to go black and start flickering after a start up until it eventually ends up as the picture provided. The problem usually occurs after I’ve shut down the laptop through the start menu but gets fixed if I hold down the power button and restart it. I’ve checked for graphic driver updates through both the device manager and NVIDIA GeForce Experience since this laptop has an mx250 graphics card and both the Iris and mx250 are up to date.
