Hi @bstone9928,
Welcome to the HP Support Community
I understand you are facing a display spotted white dot issue with your HP Spectre X360 Laptop - 15-Eb0081nr. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.
To assist better:
- Was there any recent update on the PC?
- Are all the drivers on HP Support Assistant up to date?
- If not please follow the document to update the drivers: HP PCs - How to Download, Install, and Use HP Support Assistant (Windows)
- Have you tried connecting to an external monitor and do you see the white spots?
- If the issue does not persist in BIOS try updating the graphics driver and BIOS on your PC.
Please try the following Troubleshoots steps.
1. Turn off the Unit.
2. Disconnect the AC adapter.
3. Remove any discs from the disc drive.
4. Remove memory cards from the card reader slot.
5. Disconnect all nonessential peripheral devices, such as printers, scanners, external hard drives, and USB flash drives.
6. Disconnect the AC adapter press and hold the power button for approximately 15 seconds.
7. Reconnect the AC adapter, and then turn on the computer.
Step 2
Turn off the unit and please press and hold the Windows key + letter B key and the power button together for 30 seconds after 30 seconds, 1st release the power button but keep holding the Windows key and B key for ten more seconds and then release these two keys If done correctly, you will see the display flashing once. Please attempt it thrice as this step and Restart the unit
Step3
The unit has to be turned off, Press Win+ V while holding these two keys then Press the Power button, continue to hold all three keys for 30 seconds and then release the Power button first and then release these two keys Please attempt it thrice and then you may get a Pop-Up CMOS Check and it will restart the unit
Even if you don't get a Pop-up restart the unit manually after 3 attempts.
While you respond to that please try the below steps:
Try performing a BIOS default on your PC and check if it helps.
- Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
- Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
- On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
- Press F10 to Save and Exit.
- Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?
- Follow the prompts to restart your computer.
Also, Uninstall the graphics driver from the device manager and install the latest drivers and BIOS using the HP support assistant.
Refer to this article to further troubleshoot display issues with your PC.
If you see the white spots in BIOS, it is certainly a hardware issue with your PC.
Image on screen shrinks when an external display is connected
When you view the same image on both the notebook or All-in-One display and an external display panel (monitor, projector, or television), the image shown on the computer display might shrink to a lower resolution, with black borders around the edges of the reduced display.
Figure : Example showing black borders and shrinking screen when connected to an external display
This issue can occur when the native display resolution of the computer and the resolution of the external monitor are not the same. When the graphic control detects two displays, it usually defaults to the lower resolution for both devices.
To resolve this issue, disconnect the external monitor to verify that the resolution on the computer display changes back to the desired settings. Reconnect the external monitor, and then adjust the resolution settings for each device using one of the following methods:
Control the graphic display using Windows
To use Windows to control the graphic display, connect both displays, right-click the desktop, select Screen Resolution, and then change the resolution for each display. On some models, you can select an advanced option to either Duplicate the same image on both displays or Extend the desktop image across both displays.
If the problem persists, check for and install any updates to the computer graphics adapter and BIOS firmware.
See the following support documents for more information.
To update the graphics driver, go to the Update the graphics driver section of the HP document Obtaining Software and Drivers.
Notebook BIOS update - For instructions to update the BIOS, see HP Notebook PCs - Updating the BIOS.
All-in-One BIOS update: For instructions to update the BIOS, see HP Desktop PCs - Updating the BIOS.
Control the graphic display using advanced graphics maintenance
Certain computer models that feature a high-performance chip or secondary graphics processing unit (GPU) have an advanced graphics maintenance function. Names of advanced graphics options may vary. To use an advanced graphics maintenance function (if available) to control the graphics display, right-click on the desktop and select one of the following options:
Graphics Properties or Graphics Options (Intel)
Vision engine or Catalyst Control (AMD)
Nvidia Control Panel (Nvidia)

If the problem persists, check for and install any updates to the computer graphics adapter and BIOS firmware.
See the following support documents for more information.
To update the graphics driver, go to the Update the graphics driver section of the HP document Obtaining Software and Drivers.
Notebook BIOS update - For instructions to update the BIOS, see HP Notebook PCs - Updating the BIOS.
All-in-One BIOS update: For instructions to update the BIOS, see HP Desktop PCs - Updating the BIOS.
