I'm trying to use a V14 portable monitor as an extended display via its included USB 3.0 cable with my HP 17-x114dx running Win10. I've installed the required graphics driver for the monitor from https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-v14-14-inch-portable-monitor/23207138.
The laptop is able to recognize the monitor in Device Manager (under Other Devices) but not in display settings, and within Device Manager I received a Code 28 "the drivers for this device cannot be found." When I try to update or uninstall/reinstall the driver I get a message within driver installation staying "you already have latest driver on system."
I'm at a loss. The monitor and cable have also been confirmed to work properly on a laptop issued to me from work.

@hobbicus Greetings from the HP Community!
This is what the code 28 from the device manager represents and this is what we need to do about it:
It's caused by a missing driver for that particular piece of hardware,
Reinstall the device driver manually should resolve the issue:
- From Start, search for device manager and select Device Manager from the results.
- Right-click the device in the list.
- Select Uninstall from the menu that appears.
- After the device is uninstalled, choose Action on the menu bar.
- Select Scan for hardware changes to reinstall the driver.
Note You may be prompted to provide the path of the driver. If you are asked for the driver and you do not have it, you can try to download the latest driver from the HP website.
If the issue persists, please create a new user account and check if that works.
Let me know how that pans out,
