My laptop touchpad recently stopped working.
Model: HP Spectre x360 Convertible 13-ae0xx
I've tried reinstalling the synaptics SMBus clickpad but it still doesnt work, so I'm looking for a direct link to a touchpad driver for my device model. Thank you.

@Sparquz, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
If the touchpad on your HP Spectre x360 Convertible has stopped working and reinstalling the Synaptics SMBus Clickpad driver hasn't resolved the issue, you may need to download the latest touchpad driver directly from HP's official support page.
Steps to Download Touchpad Driver:
- Visit HP Support Website: Go to the HP support page for drivers and software here.
- Identify Your Device: Enter "HP Spectre x360 Convertible 13-ae0xx" in the search field or navigate to your specific product by following the on-screen instructions.
- Choose the operating system: Select your operating system version to ensure compatibility.
- Find and download the driver: Look for the touchpad driver in the list of available drivers and click on the download button.
Alternatively, you can use this direct link to the touchpad driver download section if available: Official HP® Drivers and Software Download | HP® Support
Also, you may get the HP Support assistant to get the latest drivers: HP Support Assistant | HP® Support
I hope this helps.

Hello, thank you for the reply. I have visited the website but unfortunately my device model does not show up when I search for it. Moreover, I have tried installing the HP support assistant but it says it's incompatible with my operating system and opts me to download a "legacy" version on the website, but I can't seem to find any other older versions in the website. Any help would be appreciated.

Hey @Sparquz,
Thank you for your response
It seems like your device's touchpad drivers are only available for Windows 10, which is why you're running into compatibility issues with Windows 11. In this case, I recommend removing the current touchpad drivers and letting Windows 11 automatically download and install the generic drivers for the touchpad.
Here’s how you can do that:
- Right-click on the Start menu and select Device Manager.
- In Device Manager, look for Mice and other pointing devices. Under this category, you should see the touchpad listed (it might be labeled as Synaptics, ELAN, or something similar).
- Right-click on your touchpad device and select Uninstall device.
- In the confirmation window, make sure to check Delete the driver software for this device (if that option appears).
- After uninstalling, restart your computer. When Windows boots up, it will try to automatically detect and install a generic driver for the touchpad.
- Once your PC restarts, check if the touchpad works with the default drivers installed by Windows
I hope this helps.
