Hi @Shasvat,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If lines have appeared on your laptop screen after a software or firmware update, it could be due to a few possible issues. Here are steps to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the problem:

1. Restart Your Laptop

Sometimes a simple restart can resolve display issues.

  • Save your work and restart your laptop to see if the lines persist.

2. Check for External Monitor

To determine if the issue is with the laptop’s display or the graphics card:

  • Connect your laptop to an external monitor or TV using HDMI or another compatible cable.
  • Check if the lines appear on the external monitor. If they don’t, the issue is likely with the laptop’s screen or internal connections.

3. Update or Roll Back Graphics Drivers

Updating graphics drivers can sometimes resolve display issues. Conversely, a recent driver update might have caused the problem, so rolling back to a previous version can also help.

Update Graphics Drivers:

  • Go to Device Manager (right-click on the Start button and select Device Manager).
  • Expand the Display adapters section.
  • Right-click on your graphics adapter and select Update driver.
  • Follow the prompts to search for updated drivers.

Roll Back Graphics Drivers:

  • In Device Manager, right-click on your graphics adapter and select Properties.
  • Go to the Driver tab and click Roll Back Driver if the option is available.

4. Check Display Cable Connection

If you’re comfortable opening your laptop:

  • Turn off the laptop and unplug it.
  • Remove the battery (if removable).
  • Open the laptop case and check the display cable connection between the screen and the motherboard.
  • Ensure the cable is securely connected and free from damage.

5. Perform a System Restore

If the issue started after a recent update, performing a system restore to a point before the update might resolve it.

  • Open System Restore:
    • Type System Restore in the Windows search bar and select Create a restore point.
    • Click on System Restore and follow the prompts to choose a restore point before the problem began.

6. Check for Windows Updates

Make sure your Windows operating system is up to date with the latest patches and updates, which can sometimes fix display issues.

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates.

7. Reset the BIOS to Default

Sometimes BIOS settings can affect display functionality. Resetting the BIOS to default settings can help:

  • Restart your laptop and press the appropriate key to enter BIOS/UEFI (often F2, Esc, or Del).
  • Look for an option to Load Default Settings or Reset to Default.
  • Save and exit the BIOS.

8. Test in Safe Mode

Booting in Safe Mode can help determine if the issue is caused by third-party software or drivers:

  • Boot into Safe Mode:
    • Press Win + R, type msconfig, and press Enter.
    • Go to the Boot tab and select Safe boot with Minimal.
    • Restart your laptop and check if the lines appear in Safe Mode.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
