Hi @Joemantle

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Here are the steps you can follow to restore the cursor on your HP Chromebook after it disappeared:

Check if the cursor is hidden temporarily

  • Press the Search key + Shift key together. This combination can sometimes bring the cursor back if it was hidden.

Restart the Chromebook

  • Hold down the Power button until the device shuts down.
  • Wait a few seconds, then press the Power button again to restart.
  • Observe if the cursor reappears after reboot.

Verify the touchpad functionality

  • Press Esc once to reset any stuck processes.
  • Try moving your finger across the touchpad to see if the cursor responds.
  • If not, connect a USB mouse temporarily to check if pointer control works.

Check accessibility settings

  • Press Alt + Shift + S to open the system menu.
  • Use the keyboard arrow keys to navigate to Settings.
  • Go to Advanced > Accessibility > Manage accessibility features.
  • Ensure that “Show large mouse cursor” or “Enable mouse” is turned on.

Perform a hardware reset

  • Turn off the Chromebook.
  • Press and hold Refresh key + Power button together until the device restarts.
  • This resets the hardware and often restores touchpad and cursor functionality.

Update the Chromebook OS

  • Press Alt + Shift + S to open the menu.
  • Navigate to Settings > About ChromeOS > Check for updates.
  • Install any available updates and restart.

Check external devices

  • Disconnect any USB devices or dongles that may interfere with the cursor.
  • Restart again with only the essential power connection.

These steps should help restore the cursor functionality. If the issue persists after completing all of them, continue using an external mouse temporarily while repeating the hardware reset and update process.
