Hi,

I purchased a HP M27f-FHD and tried to connect it via HDMI to my MacBook Air Sonoma Version 14.5. My MacBook Air identifies the monitor and the monitor also shortly shows whats visible on my macbook, but after only a couple of seconds the picture goes away / black (still on, but dark). I have adjusted HZ to 60 on both monitor and laptop as well as resolutions. Would you know more?

Thanks & best,

Steffi

Hi @Stefanie123,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

The issue you're experiencing with the HP M27f-FHD monitor and your MacBook Air running macOS Sonoma could be related to several factors, including compatibility, power settings, or even the HDMI cable. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

1. Check the HDMI Cable and Port

  • Test with Another HDMI Cable: Sometimes, HDMI cables can be faulty or not fully compatible. Try using a different HDMI cable to see if the issue persists.
  • Test Other HDMI Ports: If your monitor has multiple HDMI ports, try connecting the MacBook to a different port.

2. Reset NVRAM/PRAM on MacBook

  • Resetting NVRAM/PRAM can sometimes resolve display issues:
    1. Shut down your MacBook Air.
    2. Turn it on and immediately press and hold Option + Command + P + R for about 20 seconds.
    3. Release the keys after the Apple logo appears and disappears a second time.
  • After the reset, reconnect the monitor and check if the issue is resolved.

3. Update macOS and Monitor Firmware

  • Ensure macOS is Up to Date: Go to System Preferences > Software Update and make sure your MacBook Air is running the latest version of macOS Sonoma.
  • Check for Monitor Firmware Updates: Some monitors can be updated via software from the manufacturer. Check the HP website for any available firmware updates for your M27f-FHD monitor.

4. Adjust Display Settings on macOS

  • Mirroring vs. Extended Display: Try switching between mirroring the display and using it as an extended desktop to see if it affects the stability.
    • Go to System Preferences > Displays and try toggling between Mirror Displays and Extended Display.
  • Optimize for External Monitor: In the Displays settings, you can choose to optimize the resolution and refresh rate for the external monitor. Ensure that the display is set to use the HP monitor's native resolution and refresh rate.

5. Disable True Tone and Night Shift

  • True Tone: Go to System Preferences > Displays and uncheck the box for True Tone. This setting can sometimes cause issues with external displays.
  • Night Shift: Also, try disabling Night Shift to see if it helps.

Please find the next steps in the next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @Stefanie123,

Please find the next steps below

6. Check the Power Settings on the Monitor

  • Turn Off Energy-Saving Settings: Some monitors have built-in energy-saving modes that can cause them to go black or turn off when they detect inactivity. Check the monitor's on-screen menu for any power-saving settings and disable them.

7. Test with a Different Device

  • Connect a Different Device to the Monitor: Try connecting another device (such as a Windows laptop, gaming console, or another MacBook) to the HP monitor using the same HDMI cable. This can help determine if the issue is with the monitor or the MacBook Air.

8. Try a Different Resolution or Refresh Rate

  • Lower Resolution or Refresh Rate: Sometimes, compatibility issues can occur at higher resolutions or refresh rates. Try lowering the resolution or refresh rate on your MacBook Air to see if the issue is resolved.

If none of these steps work, the issue may be more complex, possibly involving a hardware incompatibility between the MacBook Air and the monitor. In that case, contacting HP phone support or Apple support for further assistance might be necessary.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
