Hi,
I have an MPP 2.0 tilt pen that in the middle of using got overly sensitive. A touch is registered before I actually touch the pen to my screen, I use it with an Envy x360. When searching I cannot find any solutions that work for me, I don't have any calibrations settings available to me and reinstalling drivers hasn't worked. I also tried changing out the tip, but to no avail. Does anybody know a possible solution?
Thanks!

Hi @athena-pen
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
Thank you for reaching out. We understand that your HP MPP 2.0 Tilt Pen has suddenly become overly sensitive and is registering input before the tip physically touches the display on your HP ENVY x360 15-ey0000. Since reinstalling drivers and replacing the pen tip did not change the behavior, the issue may be related to the pen's pressure sensing or the digitizer communication between the pen and the notebook.
Please try the following troubleshooting steps:
Replace the Pen Battery
- Even if the pen is still functioning, a low or unstable battery can sometimes affect pen behavior.
- Remove the battery from the MPP 2.0 Tilt Pen.
- Wait about 30 seconds.
- Install a fresh battery and test the pen again.
Power Cycle the Notebook
- Shut down the notebook completely.
- Disconnect any external devices.
- Press and hold the Power button for about 15 seconds.
- Restart the system and test the pen.
Update the Touchscreen and Firmware Components
- Open Device Manager.
- Expand Human Interface Devices.
- Right-click entries related to:
- HID-compliant touch screen
- HID-compliant pen
- Intel Serial IO devices (if present)
- Select Uninstall device (do not remove driver software if prompted).
- Restart the notebook and allow Windows to reinstall the devices automatically.
Install the Latest BIOS
- Visit HP Support for your HP ENVY x360 15-ey0000.
- Install the latest BIOS available for your model.
- Restart the notebook after the update is complete.
Test in Windows Ink Workspace or Whiteboard
- Open Microsoft Whiteboard or another ink-enabled application.
- Observe whether the pen creates marks while hovering above the screen.
- If the pen writes without physical contact across multiple applications, this generally points to the pen hardware rather than a specific application setting.
Check for Windows Pen Settings
- Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Pen & Windows Ink.
- Restore any customized pen settings to their default values.
- Restart the system and test again.
Regarding calibration, this system typically does not provide a separate pressure-sensitivity calibration utility for the HP MPP 2.0 Tilt Pen. If the pen continues to register input while hovering after completing the steps above, the pen's pressure sensor may not be operating as expected.
Please let us know the outcome after trying these steps, including whether the hover-click behavior occurs across all applications or only in specific drawing software. That information will help us guide the next troubleshooting path.
Take care, and have an amazing day!
Regards,
Hawks_Eye

Hi @Hawks_Eye
Thank you for your detailed response, unfortunately I couldn't solve my issues with the provided solutions. The only solution I couldn't try is the battery one, my pen doesn't have a swappable battery (at least not that I can see) but is charged with a usb-c cable. I did try to fully charge the pen, but it did not resolve the issue.
If you have any other ideas, I'd love to hear.
Thanks!
