HP Pavilion 15-cc594nd

Hello,

 

A month ago I bought a HP Pavilion 15-cc594nd with the following specs;

 

Intel® Core™ i7-7500U

8 GB DDR4-2133 SDRAM

NVIDIA® GeForce® 940MX

1-TB 5400-rpm SATA
128-GB M.2 SSD

Windows 10 64BIT

 

I bought this laptop to play some light games and do some school work. When I'm playing games I have massive FPS drops. The FPS from 50 to 8 for 6 seconds and then it jumps back to 50 FPS again.. (Every minute) This is really annoying and makes the game unplayable. 

 

I already tried the following steps;

-Battery on high prestations
-Installing newest drivers (HP and NVDIA)
-Updating Windows 10
-Changing settings in NVIDA control center

I made a video while I was playing assassin's creed black flag;

by 35 secs the FPS drops dramaticlly..

Thanks for reaching out to us on HP Support Forums. 🙂 I came across your post and would like to help.

 

I understand that you have an HP Pavilion - 15-cc594nd laptop. I have read and viewed the video in which it shows that the fps drops while playing a game. Thanks for sharing the video. I appreciate the steps you have performed and have certainly done a good job.

 

I would like to know the following information to assist you better:

  • How is the fps with the charger connected to the laptop and when the charger is disconnected? Please observe and let me know.

 

I did some research and suggest you to perform the following steps that should help:

  • Go to Start Menu > click on Settings. 

  • Type performance > choose Adjust the appearance and performance of Windows.  

  • In the new window, go to the Visual Effects and select Adjust for best performance. 

  • click Apply and ok...this should do the trick.

 

If the fps continues to drop then please review the steps from this HP troubleshooter guide.

Thanks for answering!

 

There is not difference in FPS drops while I'm charging the laptop or not.

 

I have changed the settings you adviced me to, but still not working..

 

Also tried the troubleshooter guide, I runned the game in different windows (xp and 7) but still the same issue.

 

The laptop is brand new so overheating can't be the problem I guess.. The CPU is 62 degree in game.

 

Do you have another idea? :Crying:

Sorry you were right, I tested twice now and the FPS drops only when the AC is connected to the laptop.

 

If I use the battery it plays great and smooth!

 

How to fix this? 

 

It's an 3.33 A 65 w adaptor

I did some further research and suggest you to perform the following steps:

 

Right-click your desktop background and select NVIDIA Control Panel. You can also find this tool by performing a Start menu (or Start screen) search for NVIDIA Control Panel or by right-clicking the NVIDIA icon in your system tray and selecting Open NVIDIA Control Panel. 

  

To quickly set a system-wide preference, you could use the Adjust image settings with the preview option. For example, if you have old hardware that struggles to play the games you want to play, you may want to select “Use my preference emphasizing” and move the slider all the way to “Performance.” This trades graphics quality for an increased frame rate. 

  

By default, the “Use the advanced 3D image settings” option is selected. You can select Manage 3D settings and change advanced settings for all programs on your computer or just for specific games. NVIDIA keeps a database of the optimal settings for various games, but you’re free to tweak individual settings here. Just mouse-over an option for an explanation of what it does. 

  

If you have a laptop with NVIDIA Optimus technology — that is, both NVIDIA and Intel graphics — this is the same place you can choose which applications will use the NVIDIA hardware and which will use the Intel hardware.

Hello Mkazi,

 

Thank you for you fast respond and help!

 

I have read the article the output of my charger is 19.5 V and 3.33 A. This is the right adaptor for my laptop (same numbers on the back of the laptop)

 

What now?

 

-Gaming on battery (everything ok)
-Gaming with battery full and AC connceted ( FPS drops)
-Gaming with battery empty and AC conncected (FPS drops)

Hi Mkazi,

 

Yes I have changed these settings but unfortunately ain't working. 

 

When the battery is fully charged and the AC is disconnected I have no FPS drops. If the battery is empty and I connect the AC the FPS drops every minute.

Let's perform a BIOS update on the laptop. Please ensure that the charger is connected until the BIOS update is successful.

 

Post a BIOS update if the issue persists then you may contact our HP phone support to explore the service options for the laptop.
