HP Spectre x360 Convertible 13 ae0xx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Mouse cursor is not showing up on screen and touchpad is unresponsive. I turned on the setting to show the location of the cursor when you press the control key and the flashing indicator does not move in response to the touchpad. The touchpad is enabled.

I tried restarting my laptop, updating the mouse driver, uninstalling then reinstalling the driver(both the driver windows chooses and one from HP) and none of it worked. Its not a hardware issue- if i uninstalled all drivers and let it use some default one I briefly had a working(though limited) mouse. however when i restarted my laptop again windows reinstalled a different driver and it broke again. I tried deleting all drivers again but im not even getting that default mouse anymore...im not sure why not.

Also, not sure if this is relevant but last year when i got this laptop i installed a different driver

I remember it being a bit hard to setup but since then ive had no problems until now

Anyway has anybody else had this issue or know what I should try next?

Update- I uninstalled some software I had recently installed and cleaned the registry with CCleaner before shutting down my laptop. When I next turned it on the cursor had reappeared. Im not sure what fixed it but I have a working touchpad again. Its noticably using a different driver and the settings for gestures have disapeared, but the gestures themselves are working...so I'm going to say its fixed.

@milvibb,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

In order that I may provide you with an accurate solution, I will need a few more details.

  • Have you checked with an external mouse?
  • Have you made any software or hardware changes on the computer?

While you respond to that, I recommend you perform a system restore on the computer back to the date when the touchpad was working fine.

Follow the steps in the below article to perform a system restore.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!
