@Ashanhas, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand your mouse cursor is not working on your HP laptop. Let’s go through a few steps to troubleshoot and resolve this issue.

Check if the Touchpad is Disabled

Sometimes the touchpad may be accidentally disabled.

  1. Press the Fn key + the Touchpad key (usually F5, F6, or F7 depending on your model – look for a touchpad icon).
  2. Alternatively, double-tap the top-left corner of the touchpad (on some HP models) to enable/disable it.

Try an External Mouse

  • Connect a USB or Bluetooth mouse.
  • If the external mouse works, the issue is likely with the touchpad settings or drivers.

Check Touchpad Settings

  1. Go to Settings > Devices > Touchpad.
  2. Ensure the Touchpad toggle is turned ON.
  3. Adjust sensitivity and gestures if needed.

Update or Reinstall Touchpad Drivers

  1. Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
  2. Expand Mice and other pointing devices.
  3. Right-click on the Touchpad driver (e.g., Synaptics, ELAN, or HID-compliant) and choose:
    • Update driver → Search automatically.
    • If that doesn’t help, choose Uninstall device, then restart your laptop. Windows will reinstall the driver automatically.

You can also download the latest drivers from the HP Support Website - Official HP® Support

Use HP Hardware Diagnostics

Run a touchpad test to check for hardware issues:

  1. Turn off the laptop.
  2. Turn it back on and immediately press Esc repeatedly, then F2 to enter HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
  3. Select Component Tests > Input Devices > Touchpad Test

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
