My laptop product # is 7df84av. It is 4 years old. My mouse started having issues making my screen jump and darken. I changed the batteries and even bought a new HP mouse. I can use the touch screen, but sometimes need to right or left click on documents.

Hi @Lou077,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Mouse issues like the ones you described can be frustrating. Since you've already tried changing the batteries and buying a new mouse, here are some additional steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:
Troubleshooting Steps
Update Drivers:
- Ensure your mouse and touchpad drivers are up to date. Go to the HP Support website and enter your product number (7df84av) to find and install the latest drivers.
Check for Interference:
- Wireless mice can be affected by other wireless devices. Try moving other wireless devices away from your mouse and laptop to see if that helps.
Change USB Port:
- If you are using a USB receiver for your mouse, try plugging it into a different USB port. Sometimes ports can have issues.
Disable Touchpad:
- Sometimes the touchpad can interfere with the mouse. Temporarily disable the touchpad to see if the issue persists.
- To disable the touchpad, go to Settings > Devices > Touchpad and turn off the touchpad.
Check for Malware:
- Run a full system scan using your antivirus software to check for any malware that might be causing the issue.
Adjust Power Settings:
- Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options and check your power settings. Ensure that USB selective suspend is disabled.
Reset Mouse Settings:
- Go to Settings > Devices > Mouse and reset the mouse settings to default.
Check for Windows Updates:
- Ensure that your Windows operating system is up to date. Sometimes updates can fix compatibility issues.
Test the Mouse on Another Device:
- Test your mouse on another computer to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is with the mouse or your laptop.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
