15s-fq0017na
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a 15s-fq0017na laptop and want to connect 2 external monitors to it. The monitors take VGA and DVI-D (so no HDMI) and are both 1920x1080. Will this laptop drive 2 external monitors and the laptop screen? I don't mind if I can only drive the 2 external monitors and lose the laptop screen, although having all 3 would be nice, however, I do need 2 external monitors.

I notice the laptop has a single HDMI port so could I use an HDMI to DVI-D adaptor to drive one monitor and then get a USB3(SS) to DVI-D adaptor or even USB3(SS) to HDMI and then HDMI to DVI-D adaptor to drive the second monitor. Alternatively I could use the single USB-C and get a USB-C to HDMI and then HDMI to DVD-D adaptor.

I am thinking USB to HDMI and HDMI to DVI-D would be better than simply USB to DVI-D as I could reuse the USB to HDMI part if I upgrade to 4K monitors in the future which would naturally have HDMI .

Will any of these setups work?

[EDIT: I have seen this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/333308582392 and am now wondering if this now gives me the second HDMI port I need. Therefore this item plus 2 HDMI to DVI-D adapators and 2 DVI-D cables will be all that I need.]

Thanks

Darren

The specs of your machine is

           https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c06535919

It only has 1 USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C™ (Data Transfer Only, 5 Gb/s signaling rate) port, therefore option to use USB-C to HDMI or something won't work that leave you with only HDMI port. The one on eBay also won't work on your machine.

If you wish to have 2 or more external monitors (and notebook monitor - total 3), please enter your requirement on the following link and it will find for you few USB-A DisplayLink Certified options on market today including some HP products (you can select HP before Search)

Thanks for the links. So the key thing I need is a USB-A DisplayLink adaptor. The HP product you mention is about £167 which is far too much for me. I notice some can do 4K but I think I might have found some on eBay (second hand) that should do 1080p for about £15. That is in my price range.

Thanks for your help.

Doing a bit more research I found this HP item

(C5U89AT). Will it work on my laptop?

Mymonitor is a DELL SP2309W with resolution 2048x1152. It takes DVI-D, HDMI and VGA so can I use the DVI output of the C5U89AT into my monitor and get full 2048x1152 native resolution?

Thanks

Darren
