Hi,

Does anyone know if my laptop (15-cb067tx) supports DisplayPort multi-stream transport via the USB C alternate Mode?

I mean, can I connect a DisplayPort1.2 hub to the USB C Port and get an extended display across two monitors?

Thanks,
Dave.

Thanks David,

So this morning I connect the laptop to two daisy chained DELL U2415 monitors.  These monitors have both DP input and DP outputs allowing them to be connected to a single displayport that can output a MST stream.

The monitors were configured to be in DP1.2 mode and attached to the laptop via the USB C port with a simple alternate mode usb-c to DP adaptor.

It all seemed to work perfectly without issue, the monitors displayed two different desktops (extended mode) both in their native resolution of 1920x1200.  So the good news is that is appears to support MST output from the USB C port.

My trouble is now the hub I purchased, the ATEN UH3231 to connect my HP monintors to, does not seem to work.  The laptop (Windows 10) just reports "Display connection may be limited"

I guess now I'm off to ATEN to see why their hub does not work.

Happy to hear more if people have any experience with the ATEN units.

Dave.

The specification of your laptop says that DisplayPort 1.2 alternate mode over USB-C is supported, which holds out the possibility that MST might be supported (MST was added to the DisplayPort standard in version 1.2). Unfortunately the specification doesn't say definitively that there is or is not support for MST.

Wikipedia notes that MST chains or hubs can function from USB-C alternate mode ports.

Unless anyone knows more, the only way to know for sure will be to upgrade your video drivers to the latest version, then buy or borrow a MST setup to try with your laptop. Don't forget that the aggregate bandwidth of all devices in an MST setup cannot exceed the bandwidth available on the source port.

Windows 10 is awful regarding the settings of displays, especially when using the Aten 3233 or 3231.

You will have to select the display in the settingsmenu and then for each display choosing eithetr to share the desktop or to expell this display.

So first click on the image of display 1 and select tyhe option further down.
Then for display 2 after clicking on the image of display 2 and select the desired action.

So for display 3 etc .

The display settings are awful: even if yoyu want to change the order of the displays, you will have to select one display image and shove it around (left or right) in that display pictogranm image.

SUPER ergonomic and easy tio find out!
