Hi @Nhimmy,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP Envy 13's fingerprint sensor stopped working after reinstalling Windows 11 and updating the BIOS, here are some steps to troubleshoot and fix the issue.
Check if the Fingerprint Sensor is Enabled in BIOS
- Enter BIOS:
- Power off the laptop.
- Power it back on and repeatedly press the Esc or F10 key to enter the BIOS.
- Once in the BIOS, look for Security or Authentication settings.
- Ensure the Fingerprint Sensor is enabled.
- Save and exit BIOS.
Update or Reinstall the Fingerprint Driver
Download the Latest Fingerprint Driver:
- Go to HP's official support page and search for drivers using your laptop's model number.
- Look for the Fingerprint Sensor driver (typically listed under “Driver - Keyboard, Mouse, and Input Devices”).
- Download and install the latest version.
Alternatively, Reinstall via Device Manager:
- Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager.
- Look under Biometric devices for the fingerprint sensor.
- Right-click the sensor and choose Uninstall device.
- Once uninstalled, click Action at the top of the window, and then Scan for hardware changes to reinstall the driver.
Check for Windows Updates
- Ensure that your system is fully up to date by going to Settings > Windows Update and checking for updates.
Install HP Support Assistant
- HP Support Assistant can help ensure all HP-specific drivers and settings are properly installed:
- Download it from here.
- Run a full check for missing or outdated drivers and software.
Use Windows Hello Setup
- Go to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options.
- Under Fingerprint Recognition (Windows Hello), see if the setup option is available. If it is, set it up again.

Reset Windows Biometric Database
If the fingerprint sensor still isn't recognized:
- Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
- Scroll down to find the Windows Biometric Service, right-click it, and select Stop.
- Go to C:\Windows\System32\WinBioDatabase and delete everything in that folder.
- Go back to Services, right-click on Windows Biometric Service, and select Start.
- Now try setting up the fingerprint sensor again in Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
