Greetings, I'm writing to you from Venezuela, my laptop model is an HP Envy x360 2-in-1 Laptop 15-fh0013dx, product 7H1S7UA, series [text omitted to protect user privacy]. I bought it two months ago and today it started to have a problem that worried me a lot. An hour ago I put it in tablet mode and after 5 minutes the screen started flashing, showing black stripes. I left it in tablet mode for a while longer and the flickering became more and more constant, showing even more black stripes on the screen, so I changed it to tent mode and the problem continued, when I use it normally - like a laptop - the screen don't flicker. Check the drivers and they're in perfect condition.
My intention when purchasing this device was to use it in tablet mode, however those flickers and black stripes that appear when rotating the screen 360º don't guarantee the durability of the device. I need support to solve the problem with this product and I am writing to you to tell me the steps to follow. I am attentive to your prompt response.

Hi @Meli885,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP Envy x360 15 2-in-1 is experiencing a screen issue specifically when used in tablet or tent mode. Since the flickering and black streaks disappear in normal laptop mode, this could be related to either a hardware issue, such as a loose display cable or hinge-related problem, or possibly a software or sensor conflict that is triggered by screen rotation.
Here are a few steps to help identify and resolve the problem:
Update Graphics and System Drivers
- Even though you’ve checked the drivers, it's worth manually updating the graphics driver (Intel, AMD, or NVIDIA) through the HP Support Assistant or the manufacturer’s website to ensure it's the latest version.
- Also, update the BIOS and chipset drivers, which might address system stability when rotating the screen.
Display Cable Check
- The flickering could be caused by a loose display cable that moves when the screen is rotated. Since the problem only occurs in tablet/tent mode, it's possible the cable connecting the display might be under stress.
Run Hardware Diagnostics
- Use the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI tool to perform a thorough display test. Restart the laptop and press Esc repeatedly until the Startup Menu appears, then press F2 to access the diagnostics. Run the display test to check if any hardware issues are detected.
Rotation Sensors
- The device uses sensors to detect the orientation for tablet and tent modes. If these sensors are faulty or misconfigured, they could cause flickering.
- You can reset the sensors by:
- Disabling the screen rotation via Action Center (Windows key + A).
- Restarting the device.
- Enabling screen rotation again and testing tablet/tent mode.
Check Display Settings and Power Settings
- In Windows settings, navigate to Display settings (Settings > System > Display) and check if any adaptive brightness or power-saving modes are turned on, which could cause flickering under certain conditions.
- Go to Power & Sleep settings and check if turning off any power-saving options (like adaptive brightness) helps resolve the flicker.

Test External Display
- If possible, connect the laptop to an external monitor while in tablet/tent mode. If the external display doesn’t flicker while the built-in screen does, it indicates a specific problem with the internal display or its connections.
Factory Reset
- If none of the above steps resolve the issue, performing a factory reset might resolve any underlying software conflicts. However, make sure to back up your data first.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
