I used USB-C to C cable connect a monitor and my HP notebook (ZBook Ultra G1a 14 inch) via USB-C 10 Gbps or Thunderbolt 4, but the monitor could not be detected by the notebook (no update in the Win11 Device Manager). This monitor works well with my another notebook with the same USB-C cable, and this monitor also works well with a USB-C docker (connecting the HP notebook) via a HDMI cable. The DP alt mode of the USB-C 10 Gbps and Thunderbolt 4 of the HP notebook might not work.

Hello @fsii ,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

If your HP notebook's USB-C or Thunderbolt 4 port does not support DisplayPort Alt Mode, it could be due to several factors related to hardware compatibility or settings. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can follow to resolve or understand the issue:

  1. Check Notebook Specifications: Ensure that your HP notebook model indeed supports DisplayPort Alt Mode on the USB-C or Thunderbolt 4 port. You can find this information in the product specifications or user manual on the HP support website.

  2. Update BIOS and Drivers: Make sure your notebook's BIOS, chipset, and Thunderbolt drivers are up to date. Sometimes, driver updates can enable or enhance support for certain features.

  3. BIOS Settings: Enter the HP BIOS Setup by pressing F10 during boot. Check under the system options for any settings related to USB-C or DisplayPort Alt Mode that might need to be enabled.

  4. Cable and Adapter Compatibility: Ensure that the cable or adapter you are using is compatible with DisplayPort Alt Mode. Some cables and adapters may support USB-C connectivity but not necessarily support video output.

  5. Testing with Other Devices: Connect your notebook to a different monitor or use another device known to support DisplayPort Alt Mode to verify where the issue may lie.

  6. Contact HP Support: If you have tried the above steps and the issue persists, consider reaching out to HP Support for assistance to check if there might be a hardware limitation or require specific configurations.
