My built-in camera on my HP Envy laptop stopped working 1 month ago. The privacy setting shows my camera is set in the "on" position. The camera is no longer listed in my "device driver". The HP support page does not provide a camera driver to download. The system restore feature does not let me select my own restore date point. The camera button on my laptop is in the on position, All software updates are done.

Hi @gcnich,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
We understand how inconvenient and frustrating it feels when an essential feature like your camera stops working, especially when everything seems correctly set and updated.
Thank you for letting me about the steps you have tried,
Please try the steps shared below, which will help in resolving the issue.
1️. Check Hidden Devices in Device Manager
Sometimes Windows hides disconnected or faulty devices:
- Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
- Click View at the top, then choose Show hidden devices.
- Look under Imaging devices, Cameras, or Sound, Video and game controllers.
- If you see your camera greyed out, right-click and choose Enable device.
2️. Run the Windows Camera Troubleshooter
Let Windows help diagnose camera-related issues:
- Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
- Scroll down to Camera and click Run.
- Follow any recommended actions.
3️. Check for Optional Updates (Camera Drivers)
Your camera driver might be listed under optional updates:
- Go to Settings > Windows Update > Advanced options > Optional updates.
- See if a camera or imaging device driver is listed — if so, install it.
4️. Reset Camera App
If the hardware is fine but the app is glitchy:
- Go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Search for Camera.
- Click the three dots ... > Advanced options.
- Click Reset.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
