HP 15.6 inch Laptop PC 15-fd0000 (B1PW0AV)

For the past few months, it seems the camera on my HP laptop isn't working. The sound is working great but the camera icon has a slash across it and it doesn't work during video calls or Teems meetings. I have tried every way I know to fix this but have been unsuccessful. The camera used to work I don't understand what happened. Please help me out.

Hi  @Snickerpoo

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thank you for reaching out. I understand how important it is to have your camera working properly dont worry I'll be glad to help you with this.

To better assist you, could you kindly share the exact model number of your HP laptop (located on the bottom of the device or by pressing Fn + Esc)?

I also have a few questions:

  1. When you open the Camera app in Windows, what message do you see?
  2. Does the camera appear under Device Manager -Cameras or Imaging Devices?
  3. Is the camera icon with a slash visible only in Teams, or do you see it throughout Windows?
  4. Does the camera have a physical privacy shutter or camera key on the keyboard? (Link for steps - click here ) If so, kindly check whether it is enabled.

In the meantime, kindly try the following steps:

 1: Check Camera Privacy Settings

  1. Open Settings -Privacy & Security -Camera.
  2. Ensure Camera access is turned On.
  3. Ensure Let apps access your camera is also enabled.

2: Run the Windows Camera Troubleshooter

  1. Go to Settings -System -Troubleshoot -Other troubleshooters.
  2. Find Camera and run the troubleshooter.
  3. Follow any recommendations provided.

 3: Check Device Manager

  1. Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
  2. Expand Cameras.
  3. If the camera is listed, right-click it and select Update driver.
  4. If the issue continues, right-click and select Uninstall device, then restart the notebook.

 4: Check for Camera Hotkey

Some HP laptops include a dedicated camera privacy key. Kindly look for a key with a camera icon (sometimes used with the Fn key) and press it once to see if the camera is re-enabled.

5: Update HP and Windows Drivers

Kindly run HP Support Assistant and install any available:

  • Camera driver updates
  • BIOS updates
  • Windows updates

You can also refer to the link for troubleshoot the webcam (Windows) -  click here

I hope this helps.

I'm an HP Employee.
