Hi @Girly3

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing an issue where your camera's shutter isn't opening, even after pressing the privacy button. Here are a few steps you can try to resolve this issue:

1. Check for Physical Obstruction

  • If your camera has a physical shutter cover or lens cover, check if it is stuck or obstructed. Sometimes the cover may get caught, preventing the camera from functioning properly.
  • Gently try to move or slide it open if it's stuck.

2. Ensure Camera Privacy Settings are Correct

  • Windows Privacy Settings:
    1. Go to Settings > Privacy > Camera.
    2. Make sure that Allow apps to access your camera is turned on.
    3. Check if any specific apps are blocked from accessing the camera.
  • For apps that use the camera (like Skype, Zoom, or Microsoft Teams), ensure they have permission to use the camera by checking their settings.

3. Disable and Re-enable Camera Privacy Shutter (If Applicable)

  • Some laptops or devices have a physical privacy shutter that blocks the camera. Make sure the shutter is not engaged physically. On some laptops, there’s a button that toggles the camera shutter on and off.
  • Check if you can manually move the shutter or toggle it from the privacy button.

4. Check Camera Drivers

  • Device Manager: Make sure the camera drivers are installed properly and are up to date.
    1. Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
    2. Locate your camera under the Imaging Devices section.
    3. Right-click and select Update Driver.
    4. You can also choose Uninstall device and then restart your computer. It will reinstall the drivers automatically upon reboot.

5. Test with a Different Application

  • Try using a different application to see if the camera works (e.g., Camera app on Windows, Zoom, or Skype).
  • This will help determine if the issue is app-specific or related to the camera itself.

I hope this helps.

Hello,

In regards to  3. Disable and Re-enable Camera Privacy Shutter (If Applicable) Some laptops or devices have a physical privacy shutter that blocks the camera. Make sure the shutter is not engaged physically. On some laptops, there’s a button that toggles the camera shutter on and off. Check if you can manually move the shutter or toggle it from the privacy button.

Please note that the shutter is engaged physically already. The privacy button does not open the shutter. The privacy button is working but I believe that the shutter is stuck. I cannot manually or physically move the shutter since it is inside the laptop screen.

Also, the camera driver has since been updated and I just checked that now as well.
