Hi @Wolfman11,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding brightness control issues on your laptop!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

1. Update Graphics Driver Manually

Sometimes Windows does not install the latest driver available. You can manually download and install the latest graphics driver:

Download the Latest Driver:

  1. Go to the AMD Driver and Support website and search for your graphics driver using your specific GPU model (Radeon Vega).
  2. Download the appropriate driver for Windows 11.

Install the Driver:

  1. Once downloaded, run the installer and follow the instructions to install the driver.
  2. Restart your computer after installation.

2. Use Device Manager to Update Driver

If the manual installation didn't help, you may try to force Windows to search for the latest driver using an internet search:

  1. Open Device Manager: Press Win + X and select 'Device Manager'.
  2. Expand 'Display adapters', right-click on your graphics driver (e.g., Radeon Vega), and select 'Update driver'.
  3. Choose 'Search automatically for updated driver software'.
  4. If Windows finds an updated driver, install it and restart your laptop.

3. Roll Back Graphics Driver

If the issue started after a recent driver update, rolling back to the previous driver version might resolve it:

  1. Open Device Manager, expand 'Display adapters', right-click your graphics driver, and select 'Properties'.
  2. Go to the 'Driver' tab and click on 'Roll Back Driver' if the option is available.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions and restart your computer.

4. Check Power Settings

Ensure that power settings are not affecting the brightness control:

  1. Open Settings: Press Win + I and go to 'System'.
  2. Select 'Power & battery'.
  3. Under 'Battery saver', ensure that 'Lower screen brightness while in battery saver' is not affecting the brightness settings.
  4. Adjust the 'Brightness' slider here to see if it responds.

5. Use Generic Display Driver

Switching to a generic display driver might help determine if the issue is with the specific driver:

  1. Open Device Manager, expand 'Display adapters', right-click your graphics driver, and select 'Update driver'.
  2. Choose 'Browse my computer for drivers' then 'Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer'.
  3. Select 'Microsoft Basic Display Adapter' and click 'Next' to install it.

6. Reinstall Display Drivers

Reinstalling the display drivers can sometimes resolve persistent issues:

  1. In Device Manager, expand 'Display adapters', right-click your graphics driver, and select 'Uninstall device'.
  2. Check the box that says 'Delete the driver software for this device' if available.
  3. Restart your computer. Windows should try to reinstall the driver automatically.

I hope this helps.
