So today my computer was normal till today when i was typing my computer went completely dark and thats all, but i still saw my cursor (couldnt move it though) and i still hear backround sound from what app i was on

When i press the power key on my laptop it shuts off but when i click it again it turns back on like i never even turned it off and still has the issue.

I have tried all the key combinations to reset it and everything and nothing has worked and im concerned.

Hi @Leo_slays,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your laptop might be experiencing a software or hardware issue. Here are a few steps you can take to try to resolve the problem.

Force Restart

First, try a hard reset to see if it resolves the issue:

  • Press and hold the power button for about 10-15 seconds until the computer completely shuts off.
  • Wait a few seconds and then turn it back on.

Boot into Safe Mode

If the hard reset doesn’t work, try booting into Safe Mode:

  • Turn off your laptop.
  • Turn it on and as soon as it starts booting, press the F8 key repeatedly until the Advanced Boot Options menu appears.
  • Select "Safe Mode" and press Enter.

Check for Software Issues

If you can boot into Safe Mode, there may be a software issue causing the problem:

  • Run a virus scan using your antivirus software.
  • Check for any recently installed software that might be causing conflicts and uninstall it.
  • Update your graphics drivers.

Perform a System Restore

If the issue started recently, you can try performing a System Restore to a point before the problem began:

  • In Safe Mode, type “System Restore” in the Start Menu search bar and select it.
  • Follow the prompts to restore your system to an earlier point.

Check Hardware

If the issue persists, it might be hardware-related:

  • Connect your laptop to an external monitor to see if the display issue is with the screen.
  • Make sure your laptop is properly ventilated and not overheating.

Reset Your PC

As a last resort, you can reset your PC to factory settings, though this will erase all your personal files and installed applications:

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Recovery.
  • Under "Reset this PC," select "Get started" and follow the instructions.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
