HP Spectre x360 - 13t-ae000 CTO
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello,

I have had this problem for at least a couple of years, but I have never done anything about it other than trying to find the solution on my own. I think it might be a driver issue. I have been told many times that my hair and clothes are purple. In real life, they are not. I rarely, if ever, wear purple, and my hair is dark brown. What is going on? No one I see via video has this problem with their video/camera.

Thank you,

Christina

@distantsun,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

If your hair appears purple in Zoom videos on your HP Spectre X360 - 13t-Ae000, it might be due to a combination of factors such as lighting conditions, camera settings, and the color reproduction of your device. Here are a few steps you can take to try and fix the issue:

  1. Update camera drivers: Visit the HP support website and check for any available driver updates for your specific laptop model: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-spectre-13-ae000-x360-convertible-pc/16779579/mo..., and download and install any camera-related updates, as they may include improvements or bug fixes that could help resolve the color distortion issue.

  2. Adjust camera settings: Open the camera app on your HP Spectre X360 or access the camera settings through the Windows Settings menu. Look for options such as white balance, exposure, or color settings. Experiment with these settings to see if any adjustments can help improve the color representation of your hair.

  3. Ensure proper lighting: lighting plays a significant role in how colors appear on video. Make sure you are in a well-lit area with natural or diffused lighting. Avoid harsh or overly warm lighting conditions, as they can affect color accuracy.

  4. Check your background: Sometimes, the color of your background can affect the overall appearance of your hair. If your background has a strong color cast or contrast, it may reflect onto your hair. Consider using a neutral or less vibrant background to minimize color reflections.

  5. Use video filters or effects: Some video conferencing platforms, including Zoom, offer built-in video filters or effects that can adjust the color balance or saturation. Experiment with these options to see if they can help improve the appearance of your hair.

  6. Test with different video conferencing platforms: Try using other video conferencing applications apart from Zoom, such as Microsoft Teams or Google Meet, to see if the issue persists across different platforms. This will help determine if the problem is specific to Zoom or if it's a broader issue with your camera or settings.

  7. Consider virtual backgrounds: If the issue persists and you cannot find a satisfactory solution, you might consider using virtual backgrounds provided by Zoom. These backgrounds replace your real background with a digital image or video, which can help divert attention from the color distortion in your hair.
  8. Contact HP support (https://support.hp.com/) if none of the above steps resolve the problem, it would be best to reach out to HP support directly. They may provide you with specific guidance and troubleshooting steps tailored to your HP Spectre X360 model and camera configuration.

Please make sure that your camera lens is clean and free from any smudges or debris, as this can also affect image quality. Use a soft cloth or lens cleaning solution designed for electronics to gently clean the camera lens if needed.

Hope this was helpful.

Kind Regards,

Hello,

Thank you for your detailed response. I will go through the steps you have outlined, but I just wanted to add that nothing has changed: My hair is purple in natural lighting, as well as in incandescent lighting. I have tried every video lighting adjustment that I could find, but nothing remedies the situation. I have had many zoom sessions with many different participants, and none of them had lighting issues (that changed the color of what they were wearing or their hair). I have to conclude that it is the pc video issue particular to my laptop. Sadly, I didn't use the video feature until after my warranty had expired. I have seen that others have the same problem as I, and I hope that the company is working on fixing the issue. Until then, I will not purchase another HP 360 product. It has gotten tiresome explaining to people that my hair is not purple.

Thank you,

Christina

PS: I have problems using the HP update tool because it has only the option of Windows 10. I have Windows 11. When I tried to use the tool, it would not load.

If the color discrepancy you're experiencing is specific to video calls and not present in real-life situations, it is less likely to be a medical issue. However, if you have concerns about your vision or color perception in general, it is always advisable to consult with a medical professional, such as an optometrist or ophthalmologist.

They can conduct a comprehensive eye examination to assess your visual health and determine if there are any underlying issues contributing to the color perception differences. They may also consider other factors, such as color blindness or potential neurological causes, if deemed necessary.

In most cases, if the color distortion is limited to video calls and not affecting your day-to-day life, it is more likely to be related to technical or environmental factors rather than a medical condition.
