Hi @Sekhon3,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thanks for explaining the issue—this sounds like a case of the “black screen after login” problem, which can happen due to display driver issues, corrupted user profiles, or background processes hanging. Let’s walk through a step-by-step fix:

Step 1: Try Task Manager

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
  2. If it opens, click File > Run new task.
  3. Type explorer.exe and press Enter.

🔍 If your desktop appears, the issue is with Windows Explorer not starting automatically.

Step 2: Boot into Safe Mode

  1. Hold Shift and click Restart from the login screen (bottom right power icon).
  2. Go to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart.
  3. Press 4 or F4 to boot into Safe Mode.

Once in Safe Mode:

  • Press Windows + X > Device Manager.
  • Expand Display adapters, right-click your GPU, and choose Uninstall device.
  • Restart your PC normally—Windows will reinstall the driver.

Step 3: Disable Fast Startup

  1. Boot into Safe Mode again.
  2. Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do.
  3. Click Change settings that are currently unavailable.
  4. Uncheck Turn on fast startup.
  5. Save and restart.

Step 4: System Restore (if enabled)

  1. Boot into Advanced Startup (Shift + Restart).
  2. Go to Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > System Restore.
  3. Choose a restore point from before the issue started.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
