Hi Experts,
I noticed that my new HP Spectre x360 Convertible 14-ea0xxx laptop has a low standard web camera. The camera quality appears to be unclear and quite like the SEPIA filter is ON.
I had tried having online meetings during the day and night, with the lights and brightness at its best. The quality is drastically different from my other older cheaper laptops including a HP Envy office laptop.
I read some posts and Blogs on this issue, but it was not at all helpful. Its a new laptop, and expensive in the range. Currently, when all firms are promoting a modern Workspaces, such camera quality is undesirable for top specs HP convertible Notebook.
I appreciate a prompt support in this regards.

Hi@jacobsasi,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
I understand you are having issues related to the webcam on your HP notebook. Don't worry we'll work together to help you find a solution.
To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:
Have you recently made any software or hardware changes on the PC before the issue started?
Did it happen after a software upgrade or Windows update?
Have you tried to take a picture?
In the meantime, let's try these steps here:
Let's start off by updating the Bios on your PC from our HP support website, using this link.
The next thing, I would suggest here is to check the settings - Open HP Cam, click on the picture quality button, then click Advanced, then at the top of that window click Camera Controls. Check the Auto box next to Exposure.
If the issue persists, I would suggest here is to try these steps here:
The webcam works, but the image is too dark or the video is choppy.
If the image is too dark, take the following actions:
-
Make sure your video recording environment has good lighting.
-
Change the image quality, brightness, contrast, and other adjustments in the webcam software.
To resolve problems with choppy playback, take the following actions:
-
Reduce the size of the video image in the webcam software.
-
Use a high-speed Internet connection.
-
Do not use other high-speed USB devices while using the webcam.
To troubleshoot other video quality problems, refer to one of the following HP support documents:

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hi Praveen,
This issue with webcam picture quality is from day 1 without any updates and OS upgrades.
I tried running and installing all the suggested Updates hoping there would be a change, but alas nothing has changed. I updated to the latest Windows 11 version, but even in Daylight, couple of friends asked me to change the filter, etc. I feel the issue is with the quality of the Webcam device. I tried taking few pictures, but the quality is really alarming (grains, and low MP picture quality was observed.
I had an Online meeting and the first suggestion was to change my Black and White settings. This is quiet disappointing for this laptop specs and the money I have spent.
Besides that, we noticed when two person speaks or sings, the audience hears an interrupted Audio signal. It works fine, when only person speaks or sings.
Such issues, I have never observed in any of my other laptops, even in my office HP Envy office.
Yes, I did the BIOS update as suggested, checked the HP Cam settings and the Resolution / Brightness settings.
The Internet connection is top. The area is well light, and also other USB devices besides Mouse were not used.
I am quite disappointed for the kind of Webcam and Microphone quality gaps noticed in my HP Convertible.
I am fine to get this device replaced with a perfect one.
Looking forward to your feedback and support.
Best Regards,
Jacob
