Its been doing this since I first bought it in about June of 2017. The screen says: "Your pc has run into a problem and needs to restart" with a different message at the bottom each time.

Thanks for reaching out to us on HP Support Forums.
I came across your post and would like to help.
I understand that you have an HP Pavilion 15 series laptop. I read that the laptop displays a blue screen of death error. Not worry, I'll do my best to help you.
To assist you better, I would like to know the following information:
- What is the exact laptop model no? This link will help you to find the model no: http://hp.care/2bygf7l
- Did any software changes or updates happen on the laptop after which this issue may have started?
- Are you using the original operating system that came with the laptop or have changed/updated it?
- Does the blue screen appear while using any specific application or it appears randomly?
While you respond to that, I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:
- Power off the laptop.
- Remove the battery out. If the battery is integrated and does not have a latch to release it then leave the battery inside the laptop.
- Disconnected AC adapter from the laptop.
- Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
- Reconnect the battery and plug the AC adapter.
- Power ON the laptop.
Corrupt Windows system files can slow down the computer and cause other problems. System File Checker (SFC) is a utility in Windows that scans for corrupted system files. If SFC finds a problem, it tries to replace the problem files from a cached version on your computer.
If System File Checker cannot replace the corrupt files, use the Deployment Image Service and Management Tool (DISM). DISM checks the corrupted files, then downloads and replaces the files through Windows Update.
Use the following instructions to run System File Checker.
-
In Windows, search for Command Prompt. In the search results, right-click Command Prompt, select Run as administrator, then click Yes.
-
In Command Prompt, type sfc /scannow. Make sure to include the space between sfc and the forward slash /.

-
Press Enter, then wait while System File Checker scans for corrupted files.
When the scan completes, the results display on the screen.
-
If the file checker found and replaced any corrupted files, restart the computer, then check the performance.
-
If the file checker did not find any corrupted files or found corrupted files but could not replace them, then go to the next step.
-
-
If System File Checker finds corrupted files but cannot replace them, use the Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM) tool. DISM checks the corrupted files, then downloads and replaces the files using Windows Update.
-
In Windows, open a web browser.
NOTE: You need to be connected to the Internet to use DISM.
-
In Windows, search for Command Prompt. In the search results, right-click Command Prompt, select Run as administrator, then click Yes.
-
In Command Prompt, type dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth. Make sure to include the space before each forward slash / in the command line.
Press Enter, then wait while DISM works. This might take several minutes.

- If DISM finds corrupted files, it replaces them using Windows Update. If this occurs, after DISM is finished, restart your computer and see if the performance has improved.
If the issue persists then let us run the hardware tests on the laptop. The following steos will help:
- Shutdown the laptop.
-
Turn on the laptop and immediately press the F2 key repeatedly, about once every second.
-
The HP PC Hardware Diagnostic UEFI home page displays.
NOTE: If your HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI is older than the version used here, you can upgrade it to the latest version.
- Select Component Tests from the menu.

-
From the Component Testing screen, you can choose to run the hard drive diagnostic tests or the memory diagnostic tests. Use the results of these tests to determine parts that need to be repaired or replaced.
If you think there is a problem with the hard drive, first try the Quick Test (about ten minutes). If the Quick Test does not find a problem, run the Extensive Test (2 hours or more).
If the hardware tests fail then you may contact our HP phone support team to check the available service options for your laptop.
In case the hardware tests pass then please perform a Microsoft Push Button Reset. This repairs your computer by reinstalling the operating system. This can be done either while preserving your personal data and customizations, or removing all your personal data.
Hope this helps. Feel free to let me know how it goes. All the best! 🙂

Model #: 15-au010wm
No, there were no updates prior to the issue. It started doing this as soon as I took it out of its original package and was setting it up.
Yes, it's using windows 10 32-bit.
It appears randomly.

It looks like you were interacting with MKazi, but he is out for the day & I'll be glad to help you out. I'm KrazyToad & I'm at your service.
Did you run the SFS Scan and did you check the Hardware Functionality as suggest by MKazi?
Keep us posted.
Thank you. 🙂
