My screen (HP ENVY x360 Laptop - 15m-ed0023dx) since I bought it ~3 years ago jitters back and forth (ESPECIALLY while scrolling on a page) and blacks out randomly when I plug it in, attach an HDMI, or attach other things like USB drives or headphones. It always randomly happened but this past 2-3 months it has been A LOT more common and is very frustrating. All drives are up to date, no viruses/malware, constant disk cleanups, etc. The most recent instance also had it opening random applications and clicking around when it spazzed.

Hi @Mongoose8987,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd like to help!
If your HP ENVY x360 laptop is experiencing random blackouts when other devices are connected to its USB ports, it could be due to various reasons, including power fluctuations, driver issues, or hardware problems. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:
Check Power Supply and Battery:
- Ensure that your laptop is adequately powered. Sometimes, connecting power-hungry USB devices can cause power fluctuations that lead to blackouts. Make sure your laptop is connected to its charger and that the battery is in good condition.
Use a Powered USB Hub:
- If you are connecting multiple USB devices that draw a lot of power, consider using a powered USB hub. This can help distribute power more evenly and reduce the strain on your laptop's USB ports.
Update USB Drivers:
- Outdated or incompatible USB drivers can cause issues. Make sure you have the latest USB drivers installed.
Update BIOS and Chipset Drivers:
- BIOS and chipset drivers can also affect USB stability. Check for BIOS updates and update your chipset drivers if newer versions are available.
Disconnect and Reconnect Devices:
- If the issue occurs when specific USB devices are connected, try disconnecting and reconnecting them. Sometimes, a loose or faulty USB connection can cause power disruptions.
Check USB Cables and Devices:
- Inspect the USB cables and devices you are connecting. Damaged or frayed cables can cause intermittent connections and power issues.
Hardware Diagnosis:
- If the issue persists after trying the above steps, it could be a hardware problem with the laptop's USB ports or other components. In such cases, it's advisable to contact HP internal support or a technician for a thorough hardware diagnosis and potential repairs.
