Hi @Milimils,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The screen flickering and the appearance of vertical and horizontal lines on your HP ENVY x360 after an update could indicate either a software/driver conflict or a hardware issue. Here’s how you can troubleshoot the problem.

Identify the Root Cause

Check in BIOS/UEFI:

  • Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS/UEFI settings (usually by pressing Esc, F2, or F10 during startup).
  • Observe the screen in the BIOS. If the lines persist in the BIOS, it is likely a hardware issue. If not, it is a driver or software problem.

Test with an External Monitor:

  • Connect your laptop to an external monitor using HDMI or another video output.
  • If the external display is fine, the issue is likely with your laptop's screen or screen connectors.
  • If the external display also shows lines, it is likely a driver or GPU issue.

Fix Software or Driver Issues

Rollback Display Driver:

  • Open Device Manager (Windows + X > Device Manager).
  • Expand Display Adapters.
  • Right-click your graphics driver (e.g., Intel UHD Graphics or AMD Radeon) and select Properties > Driver tab > Roll Back Driver.

Update or Reinstall Display Driver:

  • If rolling back doesn’t help:
    • Visit the official HP support website for your device and download the latest graphics drivers.
    • Alternatively, download drivers directly from Intel or AMD, depending on your GPU.
  • Uninstall the current driver in Device Manager, then install the downloaded driver.

Adjust Display Settings:

  • Right-click on the desktop > Display Settings.
  • Change the Refresh Rate under Advanced Display Settings to a different option and test if the flickering reduces.

Perform a Windows Update:

  • Go to Settings > Windows Update and check for updates. Sometimes newer updates fix compatibility issues.

Check for Hardware Issues

Inspect Physical Screen:

  • Gently press around the edges of the screen to ensure no loose connections internally.
  • Check for any visible damage to the screen or hinges.

Reset the Display Cable:

  • If you are comfortable opening your laptop, reseat the display cable that connects the screen to the motherboard.

Run HP Diagnostics:

  • Restart your laptop and press Esc repeatedly to open the Startup Menu.
  • Select System Diagnostics and run a display test to check for hardware issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
