my HP ENVY x360 laptop screen is so dark and I can’t change the brightness . I can’t see anything but it’s on because when I connect it to my monitor, I can see stuff. How do I fix this?

Hi @Mikey33495,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If your HP ENVY x360 laptop screen is too dark and adjusting the brightness settings isn't working, here are some steps you can take to try and resolve the issue:

Check Brightness Settings and Hotkeys:

  • Ensure you are using the correct function keys for brightness adjustment, typically F2 and F3 or other combination keys like Fn + F2 and Fn + F3.
  • Verify in the Windows Action Center (by pressing Windows key + A) if the brightness slider is not minimized.

Update or Roll Back Display Drivers:

  • Update Drivers: Go to Device Manager (right-click on the Start menu and select Device Manager), expand the section for Display adapters, right-click your display driver, and select "Update driver."

  • Roll Back Drivers: If the issue started after a driver update, try rolling back the driver to the previous version. Right-click on the display adapter, select "Properties," go to the "Driver" tab, and click "Roll Back Driver."

Modify Power Settings:

  • Navigate to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options.
  • Check your current power plan settings to see if it has dimmed brightness settings. Adjust the brightness settings for both battery and plugged-in modes.

Check for Windows Updates:

  • Ensure your system is up to date. Go to Settings > Update & Security >
Windows Update and check for updates.

BIOS Update:

  • Sometimes, updating the BIOS can resolve hardware-related issues.
  • Visit the Official HP® Support for your specific model to check if there's a BIOS update available and follow the instructions carefully.

    I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
