HP Pavilion 15
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi so yesterday I was on my hp pavilion and it was working fine and i switched it off normally from the control centre.

I prefer wired mouses on my laptop so i have been using it since yesterday as well.

Today i switched my laptop on and just out of nowhere the touchpad wasnt moving in its normal way and was only letting me move left and right. the keyboard works fine and Ive tried putting it on and off with no success.

I havent tried a hard reset just yet and ive also tried a update for the touch pad.

Please help I really hope this isnt a costly repair as I literally bought this computer less than a week ago (was 6 months old when I bought it from a previous user).

Thanks

Welcome to HP Forums,

This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips to your technical queries.

I understand that the touchpad is not working vertically, need not worry I'll be glad to assist you.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Could you please help me with the exact product number?

Let's try uninstalling the Touchpad driver:

1. Press Windows+X to open the menu, and choose Device Manager on it.

2. In the device manager, expand category "Mice and other pointing devices".

3. Under this category, right click on your Synaptics Touchpad driver and click on Uninstall.

4. You may be required to confirm the uninstallation. Check the box next to "Delete the driver software for this device" and click OK button.

5. Restart your PC for the change to take effect. After restarting. Windows will attempt to reinstall the driver.

6. Do not perform any manual upgrades to the driver until it does automatically

Check if this helps you out.

Hi,

I tried the uninstalling of the synaptics driver and it restarted and it worked! Thank you so much for your help but i just have one question. Why is it when the synaptics driver is uninstalled does it then work?? Is it because when it reinstalls it the driver is updated? Dont worry if you do not know the reason im just curious but again thank you for your help! :))

Thanks for the reply.

Maybe the update did not through properly, that might be one of the reasons for the touchpad issue.

When we uninstall and reinstall the driver, it will update the latest version.

However, I'm glad to hear you found the solution you were looking for.

Thanks for taking the time to let the community know about the solution.

You've been great to work with and it has been a genuine pleasure interacting with you.

I hope both you and your product works great and remain healthy for a long time 😉

Take care now and do have a fabulous week ahead.

 :)Cheers:)
