It sounds like your HP Chromebook 14-ca137nr is experiencing issues with the touchscreen, and the keyboard shortcut you tried is not responding. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve the problem:
1. Check if the Touchscreen is Enabled:
- Sometimes, the touchscreen may get disabled. You can try to enable it using Chrome OS settings:
- Open the Chrome browser and go to chrome://flags/.
- In the search bar, type “Debugging keyboard shortcuts”.
- Enable this feature and restart your Chromebook.
- After restarting, try pressing Search + Shift + T to re-enable the touchscreen.
2. Reset Your Chromebook (Hard Reset):
Performing a hard reset can help resolve many issues:
- Turn off your Chromebook.
- Press and hold the Refresh button (circular arrow) and then press the Power button.
- Release both buttons when the Chromebook starts up.
This will not erase any data but can help reset hardware components, including the touchscreen.
3. Check for Chrome OS Updates:
Sometimes touchscreen issues can be resolved with an update to Chrome OS:
- Click on the time in the bottom right corner of your screen and select the Settings gear icon.
- Scroll down and select About Chrome OS.
- Click Check for updates. If an update is available, download and install it.
4. Powerwash (Factory Reset) Your Chromebook:
If the issue persists and you’ve tried all the steps above, a factory reset (Powerwash) might be the next step. Be aware that this will erase all data on the Chromebook, so back up your files before proceeding.
- Click on the time in the bottom right corner.
- Go to Settings > Advanced > Reset settings.
- Select Powerwash and follow the instructions.
5. Test in Guest Mode:
Before performing a Powerwash, you can try using the Chromebook in Guest Mode to see if the touchscreen works in that environment:
- On the login screen, click Browse as Guest at the bottom of the screen.
- Test the touchscreen in Guest Mode. If it works, the issue might be related to your account or user settings.
6. Check for Hardware Issues:
- If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it could be a hardware problem with the touchscreen itself. In that case, contact HP Phone Support.
