Notebook Description: HP Pavilion DV9700 Notebook, Product Number: KN879UA#ABA, System Board ID: 30D1, AMD Turion 64 x 2 (TL-62), 2100MHz, Total Memory: 3072MB, BIOS Version: F.2C
Need the correct Nvidia graphics driver as it is currently running on generic microsoft driver. I attempted the fix presented in a related thread "Need drivers for DV9000 running Win 10 Home 64 bit" from 2018. However that was for DV9000 and my machine is DV9700. When I installed the driver provided in the thread mentioned above, the display became unstable/unusable. I've rolled the driver back to generic. Could you provide a stable NVIDIA driver for Windows 10 Pro running on DV9700? Thank you in advance for your kind support.

Hi:
HP only supported that model series for Windows Vista.
So the only suggestion I can offer would be to try this...
Run the Vista 64 bit Nvidia graphics driver for the dv9700 model series with the AMD processors...
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp42501-43000/sp42635.exe
You will most likely get an Unsupported operating system error.
Close out of any error windows.
Go to the device manager. Click to expand the display adapters device manager category.
Click on the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter listed there.
Click on the driver tab. Click on Update driver.
Select the Browse my computer for driver software option, and browse to the driver folder that was created when you ran the file.
That folder will be located in C:\SWSetup\sp42635.
Make sure the Include subfolders box is checked and the driver should install.
Then restart the PC.

You're very welcome.
I'm thinking there is one other thing you can try...
Download and install this free file utility. The 2nd link at the top of the page is for 64 bit.
Download and save, but do not run the W7 x64 nvidia graphics driver for the GeForce Go 7-series graphics adapter from the link below.
https://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverResults.aspx/8972/en-us
After you download the file, right click on it and select 7-Zip from the list of items on the menu.
Have 7-Zip Extract to: and let it extract the file into its folder name.
Once that is done, go to the device manager. Click to expand the display adapters device manager category.
Click on the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter listed there.
Click on the driver tab. Click on Update driver.
Select the Browse my computer for driver software option, and then at the bottom of that window, select the 'Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.'
Click on Have Disk and browse to the driver folder that 7-Zip created>Display>NVAM (setup information file), click Next and see if the driver installs that way.
Then restart the PC.
If that doesn't work either, I recommend you reinstall Windows Vista or Windows 7.

Thank you so much for your efforts. Unfortunately, no matter which driver I use I get the same results. Desktop Programs work fine, like Google Chrome, Zoom, etc...However, whenever I try to use Settings, Search, etc... the display falls apart only for those functions. Desktop Programs and Windows Store Apps work fine no matter what. Thanks again for your assistance.

Windows has had many updates/releases since it was introduced to market in June of 2015.
The release versions are labeled by month and date.
For example v2004 is the April 2020 update 20 for the year 04 for the month.
A BIOS update will not do a thing to get the graphics to work and you would only be able to update the BIOS when running Windows Vista.
If you try to update the BIOS when running W7 or newer, your notebook will be permanently destroyed, as several unfortunate forum members discovered.

Oh, right. I'm on 1903 actually. I used Windows Configuration and Imaging Designer and put together a provisioning profile that I thought would be light enough. It's based on Enterprise though, so not much difference from the standard image. Maybe if I started with Win10 IoT Core. But, I'm not that familiar with it and it's not worth the effort. The 3 HP Pavilion DV9700 laptops I have are from when our kids were younger (now all grown up and moved out). Now, I'm resurrecting the notebooks for the grandkids to use for virtual schooling. They just need a browser and Zoom which these are quite capable of. And, I don't think a kindergartener will mind the generic display driver in Windows 10 (which works fine with the exception of the resolution--the aspect ratio kind of stretches the display).
Anyway, thanks again.
