Hi (Brand new to any forum!).

Got given a roughly 3 year old just about working laptop (HP of course) but screen fades to white unless screen is held at an angle suggesting cable faulty/shorting out - thus need new cable but cannot find this spare part anywhere (not even on HP spares site etc.). Any ideas? Willing if necessary to buy a whole screen. It's a nice (red) laptop - shame to dump it just for a cable replacement. (I ran - [now retired] a software based PC company - domestic market  - so am not a hardware man - but looks easy enough to replace cable so I'd like to have a go IF I CAN GET THE PART. Help please?! Note all else is OK on this laptop.

Hi Lomare.

Don't know if I'm allowed to use your signed-off actual name (maybe not) so I'll play safe here ...

Firtstly thanks so much for what appears to be a perfect, comprehensive and no doubt fully accurate reply to my question but especially the speed of response was just amazing!

Having said that ...

How on earth do you know that my particular cable is:

For use on computer models equipped with an FHD display assembly and an HD non-infrared webcam?

I don't even know what FHD is?

I guess you do know ... and that this cable is correct for my laptop.

Anyway having looked at the 2 supply sources (the official being collosally expensive especially for shipping and the ex USA 2nd hand item looking a bit odd and I don't actually know what the original cable in my laptop looks like) I have decided to try to get into the screen/base and remove the cable to see exactly what it looks like first (making sure I take various photos first).

Anyway, I will sign this off as a solution (what do I know - but you are I see an expert) and bide my time whilst I take a deep breath to enter the unknown of this laptop's innards.

Thank you SO much.

Kind regards.

John (Should I be saying "John"???????)
