I need to disable touch screen on this atrocity my wife bought (HP Envy), with that backwards, upside-down megalithic OS called Windows 11. Windows XP or Windows 7 I could solve this on my own in under 30 seconds. Not true of this unintuitive THING called Wimdows 11. Problem: I keep accidentally closing web pages with needed info, etc., by inadvertantly touching the screen (yes, and ALWAYS in the upper right of the screen-- the "X"). Obvious solution: don't touch the screen. Yeah, no kidding. Thanks. Blah blah. But this is the real world, the obvious doesn't apply here. I have no clue how to access "devices", or "touch screen". That useless little blue box divided into 4 squares apparently doesn't know what's on this thing, or how to access it. Can anyone school me on this very alien device, how to lovingly stroke it to find the little "G" spot I need to disabuse it from a very bad habit it has? I will need step-by-step instructions, I guess, since there's nothing either intuitive or even remotely like past Windows OS's I've learned and loved in the past.
I both thank you in advance and praise your bravery, whoever takes on this deed. I really feel like a dunce being unable to navigate this...

Hi @Crustycurmudgeo,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding the touchpad of your laptop!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Here's how to disable the touchscreen on your HP Envy running Windows 11:
Right-click the Start Button (the little Windows icon in the bottom-left). Select Device Manager. Scroll down and expand Human Interface Devices (HID). Look for HID-compliant touch screen, right-click it, and choose Disable device. When prompted, click Yes to confirm.
Boom! No more accidental page closures! Your laptop is now a normal laptop instead of a finger-sensitive chaos machine.
If you ever miss the madness and want to re-enable it, just go back to Device Manager, find HID-compliant touch screen, right-click, and Enable.
You're all set! Now go forth and browse in peace, no more "X" button betrayals. 😆 🚀
Let me know if you need further assistance! 😊
I'm glad I could help! 😊 If this resolved your issue, please mark it as "Accepted Solution" and click "Yes" on "Was this reply helpful?"—your feedback not only keeps us going but also helps others find the solution faster! 👍✨
