Whenever I press either the CAPS Lock key or the Num Lock key, no sound is produced, even though Toggle Keys is enabled.  What is wrong?

Hi @Senile_TX_Aggie

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

Toggle Keys is a Windows accessibility feature that normally plays a sound when Caps Lock, Num Lock, or Scroll Lock is turned on or off. However, whether you actually hear a sound depends on several factors:

  • The operating system must support and have Toggle Keys enabled.
  • System sounds must be enabled and working.
  • The laptop's audio hardware and drivers must be functioning correctly.
  • Some HP device customize keyboard behavior, and certain laptops may not fully support the standard Windows Toggle Keys sounds.
  • If you're using an external keyboard, remote desktop session, virtual machine, or specialized keyboard software, the sounds may not work as expected.

If you're using Windows and Toggle Keys is enabled but you hear no sound, it does not necessarily mean anything is wrong with the keyboard. It could be a Windows sound-setting issue, an audio issue, or a HP device's specific limitation. To help us get started on resolving your issue, could you please share the model name of your device?

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
