My laptop is hp x360 14 dh- 1179tu.After the auto update to windows 11 and subsequent updates ,I am facing issues with the synaptic touch pad. The same ceases to function at times and starts functioning by itself at times. I am not finding any driver updates for the same either from the microsoft website or the hp support centre. When checking for driver updates ,it mentions that the installed driver is the latest. The issue has been on and off for the past one year. Request provide a solution for the same at the earliest.
Regards

Hi @pkukmenon,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be happy to help you!
The issue with your Synaptic touchpad on the HP Pavilion x360 - 14-dh1179tu after updating to Windows 11 could be due to compatibility problems between the touchpad driver and the new operating system. Here's what you can try to resolve this:
1. Check for Windows Updates
- Go to Settings > Windows Update and check if there are any pending updates. Sometimes, Windows releases patches to fix compatibility issues.
2. Update Synaptics Touchpad Driver via Device Manager
- Open Device Manager.
- Expand Mice and other pointing devices.
- Right-click on Synaptics Touchpad and select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- If Windows doesn't find a new driver, try selecting Browse my computer for drivers > Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer.
- If an older version is listed, select it and click Next to install.
3. Reinstall the Synaptics Driver
- In Device Manager, right-click on Synaptics Touchpad and select Uninstall device.
- Restart your laptop. Windows should automatically reinstall the touchpad driver.
- If the driver is not reinstalled automatically, you can download the latest Windows 10 Synaptics driver from the HP Support website and install it manually.
4. Install the Synaptics Driver in Compatibility Mode
- Download the latest Windows 10 driver from the HP Support website.
- Right-click the driver installation file and select Properties.
- Go to the Compatibility tab.
- Check Run this program in compatibility mode for and select Windows 10.
- Apply the changes and run the installation.
5. Disable Power Management for the Touchpad
- In Device Manager, right-click on the Synaptics Touchpad.
- Go to Properties > Power Management tab.
- Uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.
6. Reset the Touchpad Settings
- Go to Settings > Devices > Touchpad.
- Scroll down and click Reset under Reset your touchpad.
. Use Windows Troubleshooter
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters.
- Run the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter.
If none of these solutions work, you might need to wait for either HP or Synaptics to release a Windows 11-compatible driver update. In the meantime, you could try using an external mouse as a temporary solution. Or switching back to the original OS.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
