I have an old HP pavilion X2 detachable (10-n155sa) that does not respond to USB power. Note: the device has only one USB C Port and it's the only charging method.) The USB C Port does work for data connections but will not charge. Since the device was off for a long time I assumed it was a dead battery and replaced it, the replacement battery had some charge so the computer would turn on however it still does not charge. When connecting a USB C cable the LED does nothing or may blink white. If the battery is not connected it will flash orange when plugged in, I assume this just indicates that battery is disconnected? And advice would be greatly appreciated

Hi @khain147,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be glad to help you!
I understand how frustrating it must be when your HP Pavilion X2 doesn’t charge, especially since the USB-C port is the only option.
- Have you tried using a different USB-C charger or cable to see if the problem persists, or are you using the original one that came with the device?
- When you replaced the battery, did you ensure that all connections were secure and that the battery was seated properly in the device?
- Have you noticed any consistent patterns in the LED behavior when you connect the charger, such as any specific colors or blinking patterns that could indicate an error?
Let’s see if we can find a solution to get your device powered back up.
inspect the USB-C Port:
- Examine the port for any debris or damage. Use a flashlight to check for dust or lint inside the port that might prevent a proper connection. Clean it gently if necessary using a soft brush or compressed air.
Test with Different Cables and Chargers:
- Try using multiple USB-C cables and chargers, ideally those known to work with other devices. Ensure that they support power delivery (PD) as not all USB-C cables are created equal.
Check Battery Connection:
- Power off the device and carefully open it again to verify that the battery connections are secure. Look for any signs of damage on the battery connector or motherboard.
Perform a Hard Reset:
- Disconnect the charger and remove the battery. Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds to discharge any residual power. Reconnect the battery, plug in the charger, and try turning it on again.
Test Without the Battery:
- Connect the USB-C charger with the battery removed. If the device powers on, it may indicate an issue with the new battery. If it doesn’t power on, the problem might be with the charging circuit or the USB-C port.
It's certainly frustrating when a device has charging issues, especially after a battery replacement. Please try these steps and let me know how it goes; I'm here to help you through this!

Hi!
Thanks for the response, the new battery works fine as it had some juice in it and the notebook powers on with it, however it just will not charge. I guess the port has a fault, I may try to replace it in future.
The device will not work with the battery disconnected and plugged in (possibly due to a faulty port). Unfortunately I don't have the original charger but I have tested known working chargers and it does not respond. In fact, it will only respond to a low powered phone charger when the battery is disconnected - the led then flashes orange. This does not occur with high powered chargers designed for these kinds of devices. Even more bizarrely, I have been able to "trick" the notebook into charging the battery by connecting the low powered USB C charger whilst the battery is disconnected (thus causing the blinking orange light) and then connecting the battery and the light is then white and the battery will trickle charge very slowly, however then turning on the device charging will cease but the battery percentage will have risen.
Does this indicate whether the issue is with the port or the mainboard? Obviously this is not a good way to charge a device

Hi @khain147 ,
We apologize for the inconvenience, but the issue seems to persist even after attempting the troubleshooting steps mentioned above. Yes, there is a possibility of a hardware issue.
This might require one-on-one interaction via remote assistance to fix the issue.
